If this was an award winning southern food, they must have given themselves the award. Simply put, the food was disgusting. Our waitress was wonderful. It seemed as though the food was made the week before, and left sitting around. Chicken was so cold I could not eat it. Coleslaw was so old we had to send it back and got it taken off of our bill........NEVER AGAIN.

My husband and I enjoy going to the farmers market on the weekends and usually stop to have breakfast at the Moose Cafe first. Although the breakfast is usually very good, I changed my mind this weekend - the bathrooms are NASTY! It is a wonder that the health department has not shut the place down for such nasty restrooms. I was thinking of bringing family over to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner but have now changed my mind. I would not want my aunt or anyone else in my family to use the restrooms. I usually am not one to complain - however, I think a coat of paint and some scrubbing brushes would go a long way. I can't imaging that the employees come out of that restroom with clean hands. Sorry - but I will not be back!

I had been an infrequent patron of the farmer's market and had always wondered about the Moose Cafe until one afternoon when we decided to try it out. I am so glad we did! The Buttermilk Chicken is my favorite...so tender and full of Southern flavor! Sweet iced tea in mason jars?! Loving it! The food is awesome as are the portion sizes, the ambience, and the service. We recently started having our 'Payday Friday Breakfast' there and are equally pleased with the food and selection. Buttermilk Chicken for breakfast...yes please! The omelettes are awesome, too! My only complaint? I wish the servers would go back to writing down my order instead of 'remembering' it and having to come back to ask me to repeat it. Other than that, and I would rather repeat it than to get the wrong food, I love the Moose Cafe and will be a faithful customer for as long as they are in business! I have been searching for that one place where I could take my out of state family for a true Southern meal and the Moose is our pick!

One of the best values for the money in the area. We often go on Friday nights including last one. I took my wife, daughter and a friend with their children and everyone enjoyed it. I had shrimp and fish. The shrimp were very good, and while the first fish I had was overcooked, when I mentioned it, my waiter brought out a large, perfectly cooked piece that was as good as I've had anywhere except for maybe very pricey fine dining. Service is almost always outstanding, though we do try to go when they are not too busy, because it can be slow when they are full.

$ of us went to eat on Wed. nite. The menu has changed since i was there last. They have cut back and taken some of the better stuff off. the only fried chicken they have is breast or tenders. They used to have great fried chicken. Also the all you can eat items have been removed. There was a sortage of wait staff and the assist manager had to take our order. I ordered pickled beets for one side and got mac and cheese. they used to have several all you can eat items at night. Now they only have 1 item. Also the ribs are gone off the menu. The biscuts were almost burnt. I have no plans to go back untill I hear they have improved things. I am wondering if they have changed owners.

My wife & I went there to eat on Sat meal was good. We had a card from Moose Cafe that states I'm a Loyal Local so I get 20% off each time I eat. Well forget that when I went to pay gave them card and they said it didn't qualify for what we got. So I said ok paid bill and went on, so on the way home we talked about it and wondered what you had to get to get discount It states on card that it is not valid on all you can eat specials senior menu or 2.99 breakfast. I ordered fried chicken with two vegetables wife orded ham with two vegetables so wasn't anything else to order. so I say this is false advertising. Sometimes when we have company we go there to eat But I don't think anymore. There's another good restaurant a stones throw away probably be going there.

Breakfast on 7/31/2009
I ordered a simple sausage/egg biscuit & coffee. Biscuits were not fresh ... dried out like they had been under a heat lamp a long time. The eggs were overcooked, and the sausage was chewy and a poor quality. A single thin slice of tomato was served that included the core! I complained and the waitress cheerfully brought two thicker slices of crunchy/unripe tomatoes. I asked why don't you serve vine ripened tomatoes from the adjacent Farmers Market? She stated that's where we get them!
As I paid the checkout lady she asked how the food was & when I told her of my dis-satisfaction, she offered no apology.

This is NOT HOOTERS - Waitress wore micro-skirt that showed her butt cheeks (not appropriate for a family restaurant).

Overall ... I will NOT be eating at Moose again!

Our family of four (two teenage boys) decided to give it a try last Friday night and found they had all-you-can-eat flounder and shrimp when we got there. First we got hot biscuits and apple butter which were great, and then we all enjoyed the flounder and shrimp. Everything was ncluded in the $8.99 price including the sweet tea in a mason jar and a dessert (banana pudding last week). We will go back.

This was the worse meal I've ever had when dining out. I had the all you can eat shrimp & flounder and it was soooo salty I couldn't even eat it. The tarter sauce tasted like mayo. I had creamed potatoes and they were instant and not good at all. We had a party of 6 and no one liked their meal. Will never eat there again and wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy.

I'm addicted to the Moose Cafe. Greensboro should have a MA(Moose Anonymous) program. I eat lunch there at least twice a week. Best lunch specials in the triad. Were else can you buy a huge meal with biscuits, cornbread and a drink for under seven dollars.

I love the Moose Cafe. We come for lunch at least once a week because we work right down the road! There are so few places to eat that really get home cooked food done right. I LOVE THE BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN!!

We had a family party at the resturant last night. we had ate at the one in Asheville and really enjoyed it. The biscuits were cold when they arrive to the table. The Waitress was friendly and helpful. The Bar b que was not good. We are disappointed with this resturant. They need some help from the Asheville one and it could be great.

I love the Moose Cafe, have been there numerous times including the one in Asheville, but for some reason we had a relatively bad experience a couple of Saturday mornings ago. We ordered the all-you-can eat breakfast and, first of all, there was no basket of biscuits, which was fine since no one needs that many biscuits, but the ones we got were way over done. The cinnamon biscuit was not good, tasted like there was nothing but cinnamon. The grits were lumpy, the serving of egg was very tiny and they did not bring us juice, didn't ask if we wanted it, etc. I'm hoping it was just a fluke morning, but if management has changed or the kitchen has changed hands, they have a problem. We will give it another try, I'm sure, but I hope I'm not disappointed a second time. If they are trying to cut back on expenses, that's fine, but it should not be at the loss of their usually fine quality food.

We went on a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago expecting it to be very busy, but we were seated promptly, had the all you can eat BBQ, and were treated very well by our waiter. We went again last week, and again were happy with the food, service and cost. They have the best biscuits I've had anywhere, and everything else has ranged from good to exceptional. It was fun.

This was once a nice place to eat..good family place..good home cooking but the past few months it is STRAIGHT down hill...it is nasty...the staff are awful...they are hateful(actually told a person in our group if their 2 yr old ate even 1 of piece of her chicken tenders..she would change them for a WHOLE plate cause that is SHARING..I mean a 2 year old can't eat a bite off his mama's plate!)...they have sat us at dirty tables & got an attitude when we asked for it to be wiped down....brought dirty dishes..( the place itself needs a good scrubbing)..hard, cold biscuits are NOT the way to start a meal!
I can't believe I gave gift certificates to family in Va at the first of the year and now..they are using them and calling asking us WHAT kind of place did you send us to..some gift..this was embarrassing to say the least!
some thing is not right there...it's disappointing that it's affiliated with the Farmers Market and not run any better..and why can't the girls wear some clothes..who wants to look at butt checks while they eat..I noticed complaints about this on the Asheville eating place to..my family will NOT be eating there again..I work in Greensboro and have heard TONS of complains of people I work with that use to run there for lunch saying they aren't going back either...I gave it a second chance tonight..my $20 loss and hope I don't get sick from the dirty plates..

We have eaten here several times. In the past, prior to the current management being in place, service has been spotty at best. Under the current management, we have had excellent service from our wait staff on most visits. Thankfully, we've never had the service described in the other review of this resturant.
You MUST try the fried chicken! It is the best fried chicken I've had from a restruant, ever!
The biscuits are OK, but the apple butter served with them is excellent.

My 4yr & I tried the Farmer's Market Moose Cafe. They do have a small shop where they sell overpriced clothing & such advertising the Moose Cafe. There was only 1 other party in the restaurant when we were seated. They finished their meal and left shortly after we were seated. We placed our order. The music from the dish washing area was so loud that I could hear it in the dining area where we were seated. Had we been in a Mexican restaurant, the music would have been ok, but I really was not interested in listening to the local Hispanic radio station. Our waitress brought out our drinks. They were served in glass pint mason jars. A glass mason jar without a lid for a child? My daughter usually does well with drinks so I did not make a big deal over the lack of a cup with a lid for a child. Two other parties arrived and were seated. Our food came out. The chicken strips were VERY dry. The rest of the food was ok. I drank all my water & my daughter was needing more lemonade so I moved both glasses to the edge of the table. A person was seated directly behind us. The waitress passed by us SEVERAL times, she went to take the person behind us' order. She then walked right past us again, ignoring the empty glasses. We tried unsuccessfully verbally and motioning to her to get her to stop to refill our drinks. One of the other staff members made a loud announcement to the rest of the staff that they needed to remove personal belongings from a cabinet because something very unpleasant, rotten, and possibly dead was found under there & it was stinking! People that were seated AFTER us got drink refills, boxes to carry home what they did not finish eating, and left. We were still trying to get our drinks refilled! One less than a pint of drink (too much ice was in the glasses) for a meal on a very HOT day is just not enough. The waitress passed by several more times. She then paused to lay the bill on the table! I FINALLY got her attention long enough to get a refill on our beverages! I also ordered the special from the board at the entrance for dessert, peach cobbler with ice cream. She refilled our drinks. THREE MINUTES later she returned to tell me that they did not have peach cobbler that day but did have strawberry. The cobbler arrived at our table, it was good. While we were paying the cashier asked how the food was to which I responded the food was ok the service was lacking severely though. Nothing else was said.

My wife and I arrived at the Greensboro location for lunch on my lunch hour on 09/19 at 11:50 AM, and was promptly seated.
We sat there until 12:10 without even an hello from anyone. I finally went and ask the hostess, if we had a waitress. I was that she would have someone right over. She did, and the waitress that came over to wait on us had such a huge chi p on her shoulder. She addressed us with a tale of how they had a new waiter in our section, I proceeded to ask her why then was it that folks were being seated in the same area after we were and being waited on. She caught the attitude of all attitudes and sneered us and walked off. I proceeded to get up and go get the manager at this point.
I caught up with him at the checkout counter and was telling him of my plight, trying to get waited on to eat lunch with my wife on my lunch hour.
When I was talking to him, the waitress with the attitude came running up quickly beside the manager behind the counter. My wife came up and stood beside of me and told the manager what the waitress just told her.
The waitress w/ attitude, was taking our drink orders from my wife while I was talking to the manager. She ask my wife what I wanted to drink, and my wife told her that she did not know what I wanted, because I was up talking to the manager about her attitude and the service issues. The waitress then says to my wife, "What is he doing, trying to get free food!"
This is totally unacceptable behavior, the manager made the waitress leave the area and then sit us in a different area and had a superb waitress care for us, gave us free dessert and then tore the ticket up.
The bottom line is; the food is real good and the management seems to try hard to please, which is good, but they need to better train their wait staff and get rid of troublemaking waitresses.
I am an old restaurant manager from years ago, and this is not the way to have waitresses treat customers. I feel that this waitress that we had trouble with needs to be fired. She is giving Moose Cafe in Greensboro, a bad name quickly.
I know from experience in the business that one bad experience goes to over 200 sets of ears before it finally dies out. This is not good for any restaurant.
