After hearing rave reviews about this place I took my girlfriend there and will NEVER go back! I got the surf and turf and everything was to be desired. The vegetables were too salty, the steak was grisly, and the fish was what seemed to be fried catfish. There was also an incompetent middle-aged waitress too flustered to handle her section who couldn't even clear our table and seemingly wanted us gone. Meal was very poor and a huge disappointment but maybe my standards exceed the capabilities of Bert.

We just got home from this restaurant and am just as hungry as before I ate. This restaurant was horrible. My dining partner and I walked in without reservations and were seated in the bar. After ordering drinks we had to wait 15 minutes to receive the drinks. We ordered the Hoisen Mahi Mahi and the Blackened Mahi Mahi vera cruz. Both dishes were horrible. The restaurant reminded me of a cross between a grade school cafeteria and an assisted living dining room. The Hoisen Mahi Mahi was dredged in a soy sauce variety, the sweet potato was overcooked, watery and flavorless and the broccoli was flavorless and yellow. The blackened Mahi mahi was served with a dumping of sour cream and picante sauce and was over spiced but lacked flavor. the squash was about the size of a 1" long piece of carrot and was mushy. both dishes had a SIDE of bread which was halfway to being a crouton. The meal in total was horrible and i recommend that even with a coupon entitling you to 15$ off your order, you will pay average 40$ for a poor version of a frozen dinner displayed on a very large white plate covered in jarred parsley seasoning. Be prepared to wait forever for service if you do not have reservations, you are a second class diner as far as they are concerned and if you are under 50, you will be the youngest diner in the restaurant. In retrospect, nothing ordered could have been better then what we got, most dishes were knock offs of the Food Network chefs but lacked execution. Save yourself the money and go someplace else cause this place tries too hard to be fancy and doesn't produce. I'm off to get some real food!

We've been eating at Bert's for at least 15 years. I really preferred the old location; I know it wasn't very attractive outside but I loved the coziness. I haven't been as often in the last couple of years because of convenience but we have had some great meals there. Two weeks ago I took my daughter and her friend and I was mildly disappointed. It was good, but not great. Portions seemed smaller and if they are going to serve smaller portions, they need smaller plates, the food looked lost. The service was fine but nothing special. Presentation was bland. We used to have to wait to get in; this was a weeknight but they weren't very busy and maybe that's a reflection of becoming good but not great. I'll go again and hope I just hit an off night (I didn't see the owner that night so maybe that was the problem).

I can't figure out where the unhappy diner back in August ate, but certainly they were not at Bert's. I have been eating at Bert's since it was in its original location and have NEVER and I mean NEVER had a bad dish there. I have had many different dishes and always been completely satisfied. The Sesame Flounder is great as well as the Crab Cakes. Their bleu cheese dressing is to die for. The service is always perfect as well.

I have been eating at Bert's for more years than I care to remember, the service and quality has always been very, very, good. I have eaten at restaurant's all over this country and Europe and Asia. Bert's is not a 5 Star rated or even a 4 Star restaurant but for North Carolina and Sea food it is near the top.

The first sign that we should have turned and ran was that this place is next to a strip mall. The exterior looked dilapidated. Screaming children and obnoxious talk from other tables made for an anxiety filled evening. The salmon plate appetizer was terrible. It looked cheap and tasted bland. Cashew crusted tilapia was not cooked thoroughly. Scallops only came with 3 despite the ridiculous price paid. Salad was old. Sweet potato was mediocre. We skipped desert for fear of paying $6 for a piece of moldy pie. The only positive thing I can say about the evening is that my beer was cold and the steamed vegetables were tasty. The prices were too high for the horrible taste and presentation of the food. This place was a cross between Chuck E. Cheese and Red Lobster; lousy food and screaming kids. I will never eat at this place again.

I ate at Bert's 9/28/07 w/husband friend. Very nice atmosphere. We shared the clams & musssels in an orzo tomato based broth - Delicous! It came w/3 slices of decent toasted breatd. (By the way, bread in this place is considered a side which I find hard to believe.) I could have had that for my dinner. We all had the gumbo for a side - tasted like siightly spicy tomato soup w/a few veggies & sprinkle of rice so don't bother w/that. Supposed to have crab/shrimp in there, couldn't find it. We all had a dinner salad, very tasty, good dressings. The friend had the grilled scallops - very large but only 3; I had the grilled grouper w/a grecian topping of pepperoncini, feta & black olives. Way too many peppers, I like them but not a cup full ok? The fish, once the peppers were raked off was very good. Cappucino was luke warm; why is it restaurants cannot make hot cappucino? If I want lukewarm, I would ask for lukewarm. I had 2 glasses of a delcious voingner so I guess I didn't mind too much; huckleberry pie was good but could have been warmer & not in the microwave please, that ruins the crust! But they forgot to put on the creme anglaise. Very nice waiter, very knowledgeable. There was a kid screaming in the restaurant which I didn't care for at all.
This restaurant did come highly recommended to me. I think I would go back, I know for now what not to order.

Bert's has a new location in Greensboro. Since there move, not only is the food innovative and inviting, but the atmosphere is as well. They have moved to a better neighborhood and the atmosphere now equals the level of service (linen tablecloths and all!). They also now take reservations as well.

I found Bert's to have some of the best seafood in town. I'd describe it as wildly creative and delicious dishes, in a warm, energetic atmosphere. They have a fun method of placing a number "1", "2" or "3" by your menu selection, which indicates the number of sides you get. Sides range from vegetables and potatoes to additional helping of italian bread. Simple is better is the theme of decor. I'd definitely go for the food, not necessarily decor. Tip: Try to stay clear of sitting under the large white menu boards, as you will have several near-sighted patrons standing on top of you to get a better read of the listing of dozens of dishes on the menu. Overall, a wonderful treat when you have seafood in mind.

Very well prepare seafood and other selections. Upscale food in a dumpy little place. Neighborhood where located not so great, concret block building sort of the old family diner style. Food prepared and service like a 5 star restaurant. Don't take reservations. Long wait on holidays (Valenties - 2 hrs+) unless you get there real early. Menu changes daily. Best fancy prepared seafood in town.
