Glendale Restaurant Guide

I have always eaten in the bar side of the restaurant. On Friday evenings they have a live band and it is a fun atmosphere. The restaurant side is very nice and upscale, but I prefer the casual atmosphere of the bar side. The food has always been excellent and I have been experimenting with different dishes, each time I go there. I have yet to be disappointed.

Hammerheads Ocean Grill is now serving Mexican Food. This is a shame. The wife and I, being from the east coast, enjoyed the fresh seafood that was offered at Hammerheads. Saturday evening we showed up, sat down, looked at the menu and left. There are plenty of Mexican themed restaurants in Phoenix. Do we really need another??

The restaurant's setting is more on the romantic side, with low lighting and a good amount of space between the tables. Because it does not have more than twenty or so tables, it is also quiet which is a nice change from the wide-open setting of many chain restaurants. The restaurant is separated from the bar by a beautiful aquarium. The bar is low-key and offers live music wed-sat.
The food had its hightlights and lowlights. The prosciuto-wrapped prawns with a honey balsamic reduction were wonderful. The crab cakes were average at best. They were somewhat mushy on the inside and quite salty. I did not notice large lumps of crabmeat as I would expect at the price.
The service was very good; they seemed attentive, yet not overly so. Their only fault is their mistake in serving me the crab cake dinner when I had ordered the appetizer. The bartenders were particularly friendly.
Overall, I think that I would return to this restaurant. I am more likely go for a laid-back night in the bar, saving the dining for more special occasions. I must also add that at this price point, there are many restaurants that are just as good, if not better, however, the ambiance makes the experience.
