Restaurant Description

Ghion Cultural Hall has been on Cheshire Bridge Road since 1992, which makes it one of the older Ethiopian rooms in Atlanta and a fixture of the city's African-diaspora dining map. The name is functional: there is a restaurant up front and a literal cultural hall in the back, a larger room with a stage that hosts traditional Ethiopian music performances, private celebrations, and community events. That dual function is rare among Atlanta restaurants and is the main reason regulars distinguish Ghion from the cluster of newer Ethiopian spots in the area. The food side covers the standard Ethiopian repertoire — injera as the base for everything, lamb tibs, shiro, sambuusas, and a strong vegetarian and vegan lineup that includes a vegan chicken derek in spicy and non-spicy versions. The kitchen describes the food as fresh, vegetarian-friendly, and organic-leaning, and reviewers note Ethiopian coffee service as part of the experience. Family-style combination platters are the standard order: choose a few meat and vegetable stews, eat with hands and torn injera. Beer and wine are on the menu, and outdoor seating opens up in warmer months. Daily hours run from 10 a.m. all the way to 3 a.m., a schedule built around the cultural hall's late events as much as the dining room.
