Diner reviews of Johns Burgers
A diner from Bakersfield, CA

My mother and I ate here. Our pastrami sandwiches where grey, boiled meat. The bun was all torn up. We spoke with management to find out how it was prepared. We were told they "boiled the meat for 17 years" -- I think they meant they have used that cooking method for 17 years. We will not return. We do not recommend. Low rating.

This experience was far below poor. Pastrami is boiled, not grilled. The color is grey, tan, and the meat has a rubber consistency. The bread is not a typical roll but was old, flacky and did not hold together. Management did not care to make dissatisfied customer's visit better. I would not recommend this food or restuarant.

I met my four (4) day a week lunch friend (daughter) at John's Burgers and we both had pastrami sandwich combos. The sandwich bread was stale and too flakey a quality for this type of sandwich. The meat was disgusting -- gray and some was pink, other was light brown. It was dry and had only 1 or 2 pickles on sandwich. This sandwich looked like old dried out road kill on the side of Interstate 40. I spoke with the Owner/Manager and he became very defensive when I showed him the meat and asked about the coloring and lack of any seasoning. I was quickly informed that for 18 yrs they have BOILED the meat, not grilled it. “If I wanted grilled pastrami I should have ordered it that way.” I never heard of boiled pastrami in all my days and all my travels. I would not even know to ask about that. I did however let him know that before we ordered we stated that we have never been there before and would like to know about the pastrami sandwich...I do that so there are not any bad surprises , but it did not help here. Cost $8.56/ea = $17.12, complete and total waste. We left over have the bread on the trays and 3/4 of the meat. I had a similar experience many, many years ago at the Oak St. location with their burger. Whoever rates them Best In Town each year cannot truly be eating this food that we received. Disappointed! Rating – negative.
Also, the restaurant is actually outside and you are in a plastic hot box of some kind. It is cooled with a big standard turbo fan which is not adequate. Atmosphere Rating ---double negative.

Went in with a gift card and we both browsed the menu looking for something to ease our appetites. Upon taking our drink order, I asked the server, Brittany B., if they served any speciality non-alcoholic beverages. When
