This review may not be entirely fair because I attended a banquet dinner in the back of the restaurant and did not enjoy a standard evening in the main dining room. This banquet service must be a new effort by La Scala because the evening was as badly handled as can be imagined for a restaurant at this level. On the up-side, the servers tried hard and were nice and the food wasn't bad. On the other hand..., the servers looked like a bunch of rag-a-muffins from a fire hall wedding with poorly fitting, wrinkly red shirts and ill-kept nasty hair. Dozens of extra chairs were stored right in the dining area (or were we eating in the storage area?). Hors d'oeuvres were served buffet style with full-sized dinner plates. I stood uncomfortably eating two shrimp on an 18 inch dinner plate. The salad, obviously made far in advance, was soggy. The dinner, not made in advance, was late in coming after that. Everyone who ordered filets (no steak knives, of course), which seemed to be most of us, were served first. Unfortunately, anyone who ordered fish or chicken had to wait at least another ten minutes. We all stared at our steaks as they got cold. There's more, but just believe me when I say this was amatuer hour at its finest. It would have been the best fire hall banquet I'd ever attended and been gushing with praise, but this is La Scala, with La Scala prices, and I was actually shocked at how badly it was handled. Overall dining experience was 2 stars because I didn't have to pay for it. I am a former banquet manager for Hilton.
