La Flor Morena was created by Mr. Valentine Ruiz Olvera. He was an charismatic, good natured man who was born and raised in Mexico City. The food and ambiance from his establishment reflected the rich culture and history of fine Mexican cuisine. Valentine worked along side his wife, Clemencia and his three children Elsa, Elisa and Freddie as they diligently gave the best customer service in all Kern County. Edward Rena and Gracie Coronado were also important contributors to our establishment. Mr. Olvera opened for business in early 1978 and sold business in 1985.

As owner of his family run and operated restaurant Mr. Olvera donated food to the less fortunate, nuestros pasanos, and to the Catholic Church Senora de Guadalupe. He was my uncle / father and a great inspiration to my life. I have fond memories of seeing the local news team coming to the restaurant for good food and drinks, seeing my dad cater banquets to local businesses and occasionally seeing movie actors that came in from the Tejon Theater next door.

In all honesty, the food at The La Flor Morena was simply delicious. It was prepared by my Aunt / Mother Clemencia Olvera and served by our esteemed waitress and friend, Xochil Urena. Jimmy Charter had just ended this presidency and Ronald Regan was just voted into office. What lied ahead were the 80’s. (Mash, Three Company, The Love Boat and Solid Gold) Bakersfield’s economy was thriving and Oil Dale was inhabited by many welders etc. one could say we were an important establishment in Bakersfield’s thriving economy. I will always be grateful and cherish my memories of La Flor Morena.

We eat here a lot and always enjoy the food. However, I decided to try the chicken alfredo and I didn't even want to eat it. The sauce and chicken both came out of a can, I am sure. But I would come back for the lasagna.
