Restaurant Description

Our non-smoking ONYX RESTAURANT has gone through extensive remodeling. Inside the cozy, relaxing atmosphere you will find beautiful water features, gorgeous lighting and an eye catching onyx bar featuring a 500 gallon salt water aquarium. The menu consists of a large variety of American style cuisine.

Very pleased with the food and the service. I would however suggest you change the name on this site. The Captains Table has been closed for years and the new owners opened up as the ONYX Restaurant.

We found this restaurant from a list we had to choose from to use an online restaurant.com certificate. We couldn't find any reviews but we decided to try it anyways.

The first thing that made us hesitate on choosing this place is that it supposed to be inside a bar (& grill). Kind of weird but what the heck.

First thing I can say is, wow! The food here is amazing. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

At first site from the outside, the place looks nice but the signage from the outside gives off 'bar & grill' feelings. According to their website, Onyx is supposed to be a nicer place to eat.

At entry, you are welcomed with a very inviting waiting room with a hostess who either seats you to the restaurant to the left or directs you to the bar & grill to the right.

It says they just remodeled the restaurant and it is very nicely done. The decor and environment is fabulous, very upscale and intimate.

We happened to be the first customer of the evening so the place was quiet and very cold. However, it was nice to be alone and with a few drinks, we quickly warmed up.

There were four of us plus a newborn and we started off with some kind of seared tuna appetizer and some blue cheese martinis. The martinis were the best I've had in a very long time and the seared tuna was amazing.

As we waited for dinner to arrive, some time had passed, however, they were quick to provide us with more freshly baked rolls to keep us happy.

Finally, the entrees arrived. And it was worth the wait. I had the Risotto de something. It was Risotto with lobster and asparagus tips. Incredible.

My fiance had the filet mignon and it was perfectly coooked, tender and juicy.

My stepfather had the Lamb and let me tell you, it was the best lamb, he or I, have ever tasted.

And last, my mother had the crusted halibut. I was a little worried about her because she is VERY picky. But, no problems, the halibut was superb!

The dishes were all very well proportioned. Not too much, not too little. The flavors were wonderful and the cooking of meats was perfect. Presentation was very nice and the sides were tasty and plentiful.

Some cons would be how chilly it was and the time it took to actually receive our meal but it was more than made up for and worth the wait once we received it.

Also, I feel bad that the place is going unnoticed because it's inside this bar & grill and you don't really even know what your missing unless you happen upon it like we did. I hope others can find this place and experience what we have as it deserves some attention.

Overall, I would have to say this is a 5 star restaurant in my book and the price is very well within reach. Appetizer and top end entrees came to around a little over $100 for four of us. Definitely an excellent value.

I highly recommend you try this place and form your own opinion, however, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all!
