Restaurant Description

You can find a Thai restaurant in just about any town in America nowadays. Yet it was only 25 years ago that Supenn Supatanaskinkasem Harrison opened the first authentic Thai Restaurant in the Twin cities. For the first time, adventurous Minnesotans were introduced locally to this strange "new" cuisine that appealed to all senses.

Since those early days, the norms of dining out choices have greatly expanded. Being one of the first culinary trailblazers, Sawatdee has become something of an institution for the "definitely different" crowd - adventurers, non-conformists, and people of all types and sizes with only one thing in common - they each march to the beat of their own drums.

Like our customers, Thai cuisine is unique and diverse - you may find that it seems as if no two dishes are the same. In one or another of our offerings you will find the aromas and distinct flavors of Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian and Malaysian cuisines - as well as a strong foundation of both Chinese and South Asian (Indian & Sri Lankan) spice combinations and cooking techniques. The result of course is distinctly Thai. While the general public tends to focus on the potential for volcanic spiciness - connoisseurs understand that the secret of Thai cooking is the interplay between the spices and the main ingredients, the delicate balance achieved when each enhances without overpowering the other.
