Don't expect to receive traditional Japanese food at this restaurant, unless you are persistent. The profit margin must be huge in serving everyone the same food cooked at the table, since everyone is herded into the menu for, essentially, rice , a few vegetables, and diced chicken or steak. These are cooked in front of you with dollops of that traditional Japanese oil, butter! There is a little soy in it to try to make it Asian. IF you ask, there is a menu for sushi ( and there is a sushi chef there) you will be told that it will be hours before you receive it (this is true) and that you really need to order the buttered chicken. IF still persistent, rather authentic tempura or other Japanese dishes can be found, but they will arrive after your other guests have already finished with their meal cooked at the table. All in all, a very disappointing and unwelcoming place with boring menu.
We are seniors who have dined in many seafood restaurants on the Southern California coasts and endorse MacGrath's on Chemeketa in Salem, OR, for the taste and value of their halibut and trout -- as good as we have found anywhere. Enjoy!
