The Inn at Phillips Mill is one of New Hope's local gems, and one of my favorite romantic restaurants in the area so when I saw the negative review, I had to comment.
Phillips Mill is definitely quaint. The fireplaces give it a wonderful ambiance in the winter, and the patio dining is relaxing in the summer weather.
As for food, my wife and I have been coming for more than a dozen years and have had five-star food all but a couple times - consistently excellent is the only way to describe it.
Perhaps it's because they know us now, but service has always been attentive. But we've never seen anything like described by the other reviewer. Service is always professional. Of course there's a chance that somebody had a bad experience, but we've never seen that.
If you're in the area and looking for an excellent romantic dinner, this is one of the top choices.

I seldom write negative reviews, but my experience last night has pushed me into action. In short, the staff is what ruined the experience. The only word that comes to mind is "surly." They definitely treat you like you are a bother and any request (like ordering dessert or coffee) is truly a burden for them. It is a BYOB and we had to ask several times (think 4 or 5 times) to have a bottle of wine opened. During the meal, we gave up asking to have another bottle opened and I walked to find a waiter and asked them to open the bottle. Water was not refilled, they did not check with us to see how the food was, and the plates almost thrown into place in front of us. The appetizer was served so violently, some of the crostini slid off the plate! It was so bad it was really comical. I kept expecting a "you're on candid camera" moment to reveal that we'd been set up for a joke. Top off the experience with average food and above average price and I cannot see any reason to recommend it. STAY AWAY!! There are much better places to stay and/or eat in the New Hope area

To give a sense of other aspects, there were many patrons (so someone DOES like it), the crowd is older (and I am 50), and the menu has a broad selection (lamb, seafood, beef, ...). Trying to find positives: the inn is quaint.

My husband and I went to this restaurant after it was recommended by several people. I'm sure at one time, it had its hay day, but that time is no longer. The food was highly, and I mean highly disappointing. But, before I get to the food, let me tel ...
