My cousin Patty, my sister Mary Ann and my brother Billy and his wife came to Monroe for our parents' funerals in November 2007 and stayed at the big motelon the other side of Rt. 17M. We went to the Goshen Diner, as we prefer to call it, half a dozen times during our stay. The reason? Superb, hearty, inexpensive and delicious breakfasts available any time of day! My cousin, a very wealthy lady who also loves to eat, was almost hysterical in her praise of this place. I just can't praise it enough. Whatever you order in the way of a breakfast platter comes out hot and just loaded with food. The waitresses are really very warm and personable people who go out of their way to be helpful in every respect. It is just so very rare and wonderful to find a place like this, and I will return there every chance I get for the rest of my life!
Now, a complaint: How come there's no Greek diners in Florida? There are lots of Greeks here, but none of them seem to know how to cook like their northern compatriots. Why haven't one of theior northern Greeks come down here to Bradenton and opened a Gishen Diner-style place? They would not be able to close their doors, it woukld be so packed with hubngry people yearning for a decent meal. The only thing close is the Greek-owned Gulf Drive Cafe in Bradenton Beach, which is really, really good but not quite comparable to the Goshen Diner. People here never heard of big, fat Italian sausages being standard with breakfast, along with heaps of home fries, big buttery fried eggs, fork-split real English Muffins with their toasty tips, and big glasses of OJ and great coffee, 24 hrs a day! Come down here and show them how it's done! Please! Efhalisto!
