I have been going to Gilbert's for the Sunday buffet occasionally over the last 20 years and can honestly say the food and value are very much worth the travel and the money. Like most restaurants, there are bad experiences and good. If you can find a bit of patience, understanding and forgiveness if you happen to have a poor experience, you will find that a future visit will be what you are looking for.

Looks like a nice place to eat aesthetically, inside and out. Reservations were made for a party of 12 at 7:30pm on a Saturday. Set up was in a back banquet room were the temperature varied from cold to colder. After 20 min. we approached a manager in order to get a waitress. The rest of the evening pretty much was a repeat of the last sentence. One member of our party actually went into the kitchen with a tray in order to get bread. We went looking for our salads & drink order after another 20 min. The manager supplied us with an order of free drinks and an apology. Entrees were presented to us around 9:30pm, two hours after we had been seated. Potatoes on the plates were what ever they had left - not what we ordered, some of the filets were under cooked, the soup was cold, but for the most part the food wasn't bad. But then again, when you have to wait that long to eat anything would have been good. Bottom line, no matter how good the food, if you have to wait that long to eat it's not worth the effort. The wait staff were very courteous, just overwhelmed. I hold management accountable for our unfortunate meal in Jackson. We should have been told that they could not accomodate our party if they did not have sufficient manpower on the floor and I'm assuming in the kitchen. Our's was not an isolated incident. We were in Jackson for the Woman's State Bowling Tournament and had numerous teams eating at the resturant that night. None of them were impressed and basically had the same dining experience to different degrees that we had. My advice is that unless you have three plus hours to kill do not visit this establishment and if you do decide to go eat a sandwich first.

Steak House
A good value restaurant. Large portions and the steaks are big and tender. The atmosphere is nothing special but if you're looking for good food this is a great place.

We waited 90 minutes after our salad for the main meal. The female manager was quite rude when we complained stating "It's the waitresses fault!" and "I don't know what the hell happened" Very unprofessional. It's too bad the management is so poor because the food was very good.
