Jacksonville Beach Restaurant Guide

The person who rated this restaurant poorly and then proceeded to review another restaurant, has no idea what he's talking about, and I'm even wondering if maybe he was someone associated with the other restaurant.

At any rate, I've been to Dwight's a couple of times and the experience was always pleasant. The food was excellent and the crab cakes were out of this world. Anyone who says otherwise about the crab cakes is either from Baltimore or is missing vital taste buds.

If you're the type of person who wants a brand new building and hates the classic feel of a fine older restaurant, then stick with the Outback. Otherwise, trust me, you'll love this place.

And the guy who said $150 per person is crazy as well. Unless you order a $200 bottle of wine, you'll get out of there for under $125 per couple. And I'm not sure if this policy is still in place, so forgive me if it's not, but I received a nice 30% discount for paying in cash.

Over all, I'll be back to this place in a couple days for Valentine's Day, and until I have a bad experience, I'll continue to be back. Good job Dwight.

Try to ignore the surroundings when you walk in, the rundown strip mall does not represent the restaurant very well. Service was very good, friendly and competent. Food is very good but also very pricey. For my money I think the crab cakes are the best choice. The sides were not that impressive, they taste good, just expect more for the price. Nice wine selection, basically $40 a bottle and up but good stuff. Overall the restaurant is very good I would recommend to anyone who does not mind spending the money. Expect to spend at least $150 per couple for a proper meal.

After reading the excellent reviews, we decided to go to Dwights to celebrate a special occasion.

What a joke. The location is a in a dive area strip mall. I was expecting that if it looked like such a dive on the outside, it must be a palace on the inside. Nope. Just a warmed-over sandwich shop with white table cloths. The waiter seating us pointed us to our reserved table for us to seat ourselves. Amazing. Outside of Jacksonville, it is customary for at least the lady to be seated for a $150/person dinner.

As I sat contemplating the chips in the finish of the furniture and the VERY limited selection of a menu, it occured to me that I could run back across town for some nice duck, excellent wine, friendly attentive service, and fantastic desert at JJ's Bistro (French) across town on Gate Parkway, and that it would cost about half what Dwight's hole would cost.

Honestly, you'll have to try the food for yourself. When we go out for a nice meal, we want the whole package including ambiance and service. Dwight's made such a dismal impression within the first 10 minutes, we did not even give them the chance to impress us with the food. Good luck.

Dwights did not live up to the hype or the prices. While the service and atmosphere were at the tops for Jacksonville, the food was pedestrian - especially given the whooping prices. For $27.95 the Foie Grais special was cut too thin and ruined by a bread coating that was sauteed leaving me to wonder if the chef had ever been to Roy's for example and tasted their preparation for $10 less. The Grouper special was nothing special and frankly not worth the price. The side dishes were inferior and really a joke considering the prices. I agree with other reviews that the crab cake was a highlight.

Prices are outrageous if you enjoy wine. The cheapest bottle is $35.

If you like atmosphere and high prices - go here. But, go with your eyes open and your wallet full.

Dwight’s is an absolute treat. You will find an incredible wait staff as well as a friendly chef. Who knows how many crab cakes they might put on your plate (by the way….the best crab cakes at the beach), maybe four if you are lucky.
I highly recommended Dwight’s for any occasion. Oh yeah, the bathrooms are great too....go see for yourself!!

Wonderful for special occasions....pricey...but worth it!
