Every year my husband and I meet old friends who come down from Minneapolis for the weekend. We live in Milwaukee. One of our daughters went to school in LaCrosse and while she was there she introduced us to Diggers. Each year we come back and spend our Friday night meal warmly embraced by the friendliness. The food is old Wisconsin supper club good....dependable, tasty and bountiful. The wait staff has always been helpful and accommodating without being intrusive. The ambience is what it is but even that melds into the total experience and starts us off on that welcome back note that we have come to expect. If you are new to La Crosse you have to try it and if you are not rediscover your treasure. We are getting older now and that daughter has moved on to big city life but I have a hunch this place will outlast us all!!!

I went there last year with my girlfriend and it was a GREAT experience. The waiters literally "take care of you." They come at just the right time, frequency (not annoyingly coming all the time). There not high school drop-outs either, but rather classy people who love their job. Food was absolutely outstanding, amazing prime-ribs, fabulous artichoke dip. I will have to agree with the other reviewer about the drinks. BEST BLOODY MARY IN THE STATE. You absolutely cannot find a better bloody mary, if you do I want to know where. It comes in this big chalice like bowl glass with a big block of pepperjack cheese and is very well prepared. I will have to say the same about their top shelf margarita on the rocks. It is prepared so well I have yet to find one better at any bar. The rest is amazing too, great atmosphere, very cozy and romantic.

I've been to this north side restaurant maybe 10 times in the past 7 month and only once was I actually able to get a shake - all other times the machine was unavailable. I don't have this issue with the Burger King by Festival or the one in Holmen ...

We had a wonderful time. The view of the Mississippi was wonderful. The potato crusted walleye was delicious. The staff made our celebration special. Great food and great service.

A great place to eat. Quiet place to enjoy a peaceful meal. Wait staff is great Showed up at 9 at nite had the prime rib and got it just the way I wanted it, not many places can give you that. I will be going back next time in town.

The food is consistently good. It's reminiscent of supper clubs in the 1950s, and the menu has hardly changed. Their saving grace is their bar and their steaks. Vegetables are overcooked, starches are bland. Their bread is horrid; it's frozen and they pop it in the oven "fresh" for you. Stick to their prime rib, the prime rib sandwich (pay the extra $1 it's worth it for "choice cut" . . . and the buns they use are decent, the only piece of good bread there). Other good choices include the black and blue salad. Fish and seafood are consistently rubbery, avoid them. Order a cosmopolitan cocktail to help you with the tacky ambiance. The waiters are good, and the gossip you'll hear, once the old-timers leave to digest their blue-plate special, is delightful. Lots of character.

This is a wonderful place to have dinner, especially since it has become a non-smoking restaurant. It is my favorite place to have a special dinner with my friends.
They have updated the menu and now include scrumptious crab legs! Be sure to try out the seafood artichoke dip for your appetizer.

This restuarant no longer allows smoking which some may like. Waitstaff is well trained and accomodating. Food is consistently well prepared. Margarita's on the rocks may be the best in the state. Half rack of BBQ pork ribs is quite a meal for the price. Batter fried cod impressed a friend from London.

My boyfriend brought me to Digger's for my birthday, and I was amazed with everything. I've lived in La Crosse for awhile, and I never realized Digger's was a hidden treasure. We both had prime rib, and it was wonderful! I will be going back there for sure! The atmosphere is so romantic. I loved it.

Digger's allows patrons to smoke anywhere in the restaurant. Beware - the management does not make accomodations for non smokers. Avoid this restaurant if you typically ask for a non smoking table.

I worked at this place as a fry cook.. I have cut and prepared almost everything to be cooked including the vegetables to be blached, fileting the walley, and chopping the romaine and head lettuce, cabbage, mushrooms, and carrots to be put on the salads. I also fried and broiled everything they serve, including walley, scallops, escargot, ce is VERY clean in back, everythings fresh, and thand fries. This person who makes this what it is is Steve the head chef (from Hawaii)

Excellent food and wine choices, great waitstaff. Love the restaurant theme from the movie "The Sting" (Paul Neuman & Robert Redford), kind of mobster-ish decor & music, dark, romantic, candle lit, love it. Everytime I take a friend to eat there, it becomes their favorite restaurant too. Best kept secret in La Crosse.

Fun, 1930's atmosphere. Pix of old movie stars, jukebox with old gangster type tunes, dark decor. Food is awesome.
