This place used to be great. I have been many times over the past year, but recently both the food and the service have become unacceptable. The mainstay dishes on the menu are now inconsistent. The meat dishes, like the pork chop and steak, are now oversalted, to the point of being thirsty all night long. The pasta dishes are overcooked, with a consistency like Chef Boy-R-Dee in a can. The desserts do not taste fresh anymore but like they've been sitting in the freezer for weeks, with stale crusts and ice crystals in the ice cream. The wines are very disappointing. When I order a $12 glass of wine, it "tastes" like cheap stuff out of a big jug. When I tried to send back a pasta dish for being totally mushy and inedible, the waitress went to the manager who gave me attitude. He shook his head and said, "It's FINE!" Those crooks still charged me for it!

The place is sorely lacking in cleanliness. The utensils and glasses are dirty. The floor is sticky, and the bathroom is filthy. I wonder how dirty the kitchen is.

I'd rate the Cafe as the best of many mediocre restaurants on Montague Street. The menu is pretentious for this area, but the food is competently prepared. When crowded, it's very noisy. Service ranges from good to erratic.
