This place is terrible. If you read the reviews saying "I grew up three blocks from there" then the guy probably DELIVERS for them. The carpet looks like it has never been cleaned. The fishtank is grungy. And, the service--let me tell you the male waiter is a bizarre. Read the other reviews. He actually orders customers to leave a bigger tip. They have re-washed old food and brought it back out. Avoid this place. Please let it go away. It might be funny if Curb Your Enthusiasm did an episode about this place with this one waiter. Kind of reminds me of the Soup guy from Seinfeld. Being on the receiving end of this man's tirades is really not fun. We used to be loyal customers. And, yes, the food was at one point, decent. But, GET REAL. Why should anyone pay to be treated badly. Read some of the other reviews posted here. And, to anyone who lived "three blocks away" we DON'T CARE where you live. We're sharing honest, real opinions about the food, the service and decor. Take a look at some of the other reviews on the web. A LOT OF PEOPLE think this place is substandard...

This place STINKS! The waitress actually brought us a dish WE DID NOT ORDER, then actually brought it back to the kitchen and WASHED IT with water and TRIED TO BRING IT BACK TO US!! When we refused to give these lunatics a tip, they actually complained and tried to tell us NEVER TO COME BACK! Don't worry, you sick losers!! We won't come back...and we're going to make it our LIFE's MISSION to VEER PEOPLE AWAY FROM THIS SICK PLACE!!!!

Chang's is the best short-lunch-break restaurant. It has that feel of a friendly, family owned place that gives you a realistic dining experience. I would recommend the chicken curry, which by far, after visiting many asian restaurants in the LA area has been the best. I wish all the best success to Chang's in the future and keep cookin'!

Some dishes taste like Mom used to make--the hand made pork potstickers, the hot and sour soup, and yes, the seafood dishes are real seafood. The service depends on who you get. A wonderful woman who always makes you feel like you're a regular keeps us going there. A rather small thin severe gentleman will ignore you while he is on the phone and make you feel like an extra on the set of a low budget grindhouse movie. Beware his wrath. You will not get water. He will not take your order. And, he will make you sit behind the fishtank even though every other table is open--because he has "reservations" for his best customers. Yet, we keep going because the food is overall good, and the nice lady is really nice!

I have eaten at this restaurant since it has opened. It has always been great. All restaurants have an off day, but that has been very seldom over the years with Chang's. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves Chinese food.

Whoever wrote that first review is OUT OF THEIR MIND! I grew up three blocks from Chang's, and every holiday and special occasion was spent there...including birthdays! We even kept Polly abrest when we started shopping for a home in the neighborhood, and to this day, not once has she not personally helped me carry food to the car when we get take out. Not only is the food world class, but the quality of the people (customer and server alike) is of the highest pedigree. See you there!

As a loyal customer w/ family for a number of years, I was extremely disappointed on a recent visit and will never go back again. First off, if you arrive at 8:30pm on any night - even weekend nights - be prepared to be told to rush your order because their kitchen stops cooking promptly at 9:00pm. We ordered Chardonnay with dinner and received a bottle of "two-buck Chuck" - a reference to the cheap $1.99 wine sold at Trader Joe. The bill arrived and they had the gall to charge us $18 for the bottle - 9x the price of the wine!! Even great restaurants don't mark up their wines more than 2x or 3x. When I asked about their excessive charge, I received a rude explanation. Upon leaving, a server who didn't even wait on our table made a snide remark about the reduced tip his co-worker got from us as a result of gouging us on the wine. This restaurant ought to take a long, hard look at how they value their customers, since there are a number of very good Chinese restaurants in this area. As good as the food can be at time, it doesn't overshadow good service. We will certainly not be coming back, as they have lost our business for good.

I have eaten chinese food in Los Angeles for most of my adult life, and no matter how many new places I try, I keep coming back to Chang's. Easily the best Chinese seafood I've eaten in Los Angeles. I am always seated quickly, and combined with the always-prompt service, I highly recommend Chang's to anyone.

At Chang's, when you order a shrimp dish, that's what you get. Shrimp, and lots of it. No filler like those other Chinese places. And the food is super fresh and cheap for how much you get. Chang's has been a Brentwood staple for 20 years; the last time I was there I saw Peter Falk and Dennis Quaid. Those guys and other regulars go there for a reason - the fresh, healthy and delicious Chinese food, the friendly and prompt service, as well as the location. Try the Chendu Chicken or Sesame Shrimp; they're my favorites.
