Cuban Food & Culture History

4  out of 5 stars
a diner from undisclosed location
I had high hopes for Casavana since it is in Miami Lakes a thriving Hispanic city in the heart of Hialeah. It mostly delivered with the Churrasco steak which was moist and tender while the black beans and rice was full of flavorful. I ordered the Mariquitas which are thinly sliced fried green plantains. They are served with a mojito sauce which was okay but I prefer the more authentic Mariquitas that are dos-sled with fresh pureed garlic mix in a lime olive oil sauce. Where Casavana really lacked was the Batidos de Mamey. It was was barely thick and it tasted like very watered down Mamey. In fact it was difficult to decipher that it was Mamey at all. Although you can't judge a restaurant by only their shakes, I will have to give it 4 stars since they messed up on a staple for the Cuban cuisine. I will definitely visit again if I'm in town. Maybe it was just an off night for their shakes.
