In 1885 at the Erie County Fair in New York, the brothers Frank and Charles Menches ran out of pork for their popular sausage sandwiches. A quick-thinking substitution of chopped beef, brown sugar, coffee and other ingredients resulted in the hamburger! In 1904 they created the cornucopia ice cream cone. Wine aficionados should definitely check out Tangier Restaurant and Cabaret, opened in 1948, the Tangier has hosted such luminaries as Tina Turner, The Temptaitions and Charlie Daniels, and with its own newly-built wine cellar, there's sure to be a favorite for even the most discerning palate.
