A diner [janeisapain2003@yahoo.com] from South Carolina gave an overall rating of 3.0  out of 5 stars on June 2, 2008 @ 11:38 PM

We visited the San Antonio location on 16May08
Our dining experience was good and as expected because only a few in my family knew what kind of restaurant Dicks Last Resort is...but we were never told that a party of seven would have the gratuity added to the bill...I quickly signed my bill because we had to be somewhere within a half hour.....the small print was not noticeable w/the $20 gratuity that was added.......we left a $25 cash tip...because we are past servers at popular chain restaurants........nothing was corrected on my bill and I feel management could of taken care of this...I am highly dissapointed that the waitress was not honest enough to tell her manager to only put my chgs in @$124 instead of $144 beacause she was left a tip @ the table...We have had this exact same party of seven go out before and paid half the price for our food and not have gratuity added to our bill....Your servers need to make that clearer if that is an everday standard at your restaurants!!!!

Dinner menu was too limited, not enough variety of choices. Six were in our party, three came away sick. Wonder if this review will get posted.............

I had heard good things about this place, I went with my girlfriends for a birthday. It was in fact funny at first, but when two of us decided we wanted to split a meal, they told us we couldn't do this. So my friend decided she wasn't that hungry and she was just going to sit with us, the waiter told her she had to leave and she couldn't stay if she wasn't eating. So much for a fun birthday. Also this is not a family restaurant AT ALL do not bring your children here. Overall, the food was WAY over priced for the amount and quality you actually receive ($13 for a salad really?!), and on top of that they people took it way to far and took it from what could be an enjoyable experience to a horrible one I would never recomend

I have been to several Dick's. Each time it is a great time. Anyone who is coming to dick's and expects to have a waiter be the normal waiter that only serves u is just naive. They were rude and THAT is why people go there. Awesome time, especially when u start to dish it back.

San Antonio, Riverwalk location... Awesome place if you want to have fun.... It's not a relaxing calm place, but for some unusual entertainment it is great! Rude, Crude, but all in good fun.... Will never forget it.... "Here's your food, hope it tastes like crap"!..... Awesome!

A diner from Nashua, NH gave an overall rating of 3.0  out of 5 stars on October 29, 2005 @ 12:17 PM

I went there last night with a group to have fun. I was disappointed! The place was not fun anymore. I've been to this Dicks a few times and most others throughout the US, and always had a blast. Not this time. I was told that they were told to simmer it down. I went there purposely to have fun with my friends and we did not. If the ambiance does not change back to how it used to be, I won't be going to this establishment any longer.

A diner [nitemare_niq@yahoo.com] from San Francisco gave an overall rating of 5.0  out of 5 stars on July 31, 2004 @ 11:27 PM

A great restaurant for young frats and party animals. it is a rude and crude place with the most outrageous behaviors in San Diego. don't take children here, there is alot of cursing, drunks, and adult themes. the servers will cuss at you from across the room and there are napkins on the floor (theye arn't aloud on tables). all employees are trained to be witty and to insult you. the food is okay and a bit pricy, but it is worth it for the laughs: it is the next best thing to a comedy club. you must be 21 to enter (or at least with someone older than that) and you must have a sense of 'crude' humor. I went there resently and some drunk man said f/// you to everyone around him, then to my dad and then to me (I am only fourteen years old too!).some comments are: "Eat the bread fast and you wont be able tell how old it is" and "what the hell do you want to eat" and finaly "F/// You." all are from the waiters. In retrospective it is more like a regualar restaurant than one would think; the servers bring bread and coleslaw to the table when you order, stop by your table to see if you want anything, bring refills of water constantly, and ask if you need your check. they do everything with a bad attitude and make it seem funny. it is very loud here but still enjoyable. be carfull about who you bring, it is not for young children (the server will laugh at and insult anyone and everyone) or elders who want a quiet meal. It is a good place for guys night out, girls night out, singles, and frats. this is one of the best places to go eat, it is american cuisine (burgers, fries, and steak, sorta thing), and the names on the menue will have you laughing as well as the service. but keep in mind that the servers dserve a good tip the have to wait on alot of tables and impress their patrons while doing so. it is an experiance like no other, Honestly! Oh and did I mention live music every day!?! please consider this place, it is a meal and a show in one.

A diner [caharris@ut.edu] from Boston, MA said... on June 26, 2004 @ 1:50 PM

I would just like to say that I've been to Dick's Last Resort plenty of times and loved each experience. We just recently went there again to celebrate a friends 21st birthday. We had all been there before and knew what to expect. and it was my WORST experience in a restaurant, and I am a waitress. We were extremely excited for the sarcastic remarks from the staff. When we arrived some people went to the bar and grabbed drinks, some ran to the bathroom, most were singing and dancing because there was a live band playing, and others were sitting at the table. I came back from the bathroom, sat at the table and the waiter came over. He asked some of us if he could get us anything. My friends asked for some beers. He asked for their ID's which they gave him and he replied that he would NOT serve them because they were supposidly FAKE ID's. We asked him to go and scan then because my friends were 21. And to our surprise, they don't have scanners! He then got a piece of mind from my friends who were all of legal age to drink and then walked off. The waiter came back with a waitress and told us that we all must leave because we were obviously "drunk" and underage, and that people were trying to use fake ID's to buy drinks. I asked the waiter if I could speak with him and I explained to him that he was right that some of us were not 21 and some of us weren't. I then told him that the only people who were 21 had ordered drinks at the bar and then had asked him for a beer in which he replied NO. I then told him that nobody was "wasted" as he put it. There was a live band playing which had a stage infront of it. My friends were up singing and dancing. They rufused to let us stay. Needless to say this ruined my friends birthday. Everyone after that was extremely aggrivated. Why would a restaurant do such a thing. A restaurant that is supposed to be "rude and crude" and always up for a great time, especially with a band playing, has completely disgusted me. The management and staff were completely unprofessional and for as much as I love Dick's Last Resort I REFUSE to go back there for the way that we were treated. I am completely disgusted by the way that restaurant handeled itself.

A diner from San Diego, California gave an overall rating of 3.0  out of 5 stars on June 11, 2004 @ 1:27 PM

I am a native of San Diego, California....a great place to live and raise a family. So, I've had the pleasure of dancing and drinking in restaurants and bars of many types from Carlsbad to Tijuana. Please do not take your relatives (unless you don't want them back for a visit)and certainly good friends to Dick's Last Resort located in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. This restaurant/bar primarily attracts the young loud single group on Friday and Saturday nights, however during the day hours of the week and weekend many families frequent. The steady stream of un-suspecting out-of-towners must keep this place going because why would you want to spend your hard earned money on bland bar food from a limited menu, dirty floors and innatentive, "over the top" sarcastic staff. In fairness, I was told the staff is loud and raucous....and sometimes picks on the customers. Okay, I've been to places like this before and keep in mind this is supposed to be all in good fun! However, a majority of the staff was seen laughing and talking loudly with each other, all but ignoring many of the customers. My friends and I were there for a birthday celebration. After a round of drinks we had to move to a new table (the server at our first table was attentive). That seems to be were the disconnect happened. Staff continued to play among themselves and we never met our new server. We asked four different staff for our waiter and drinks. All of them replying with non-sensible over the top sarcasim. Finally, we asked for the manager who aplogized, gave us his card, a free round of drinks and we finally met our server.

I don't understand why the point of this place is to be rude. Why would you want to eat at a place like this?

A diner from Albany, NY gave an overall rating of 5.0  out of 5 stars on May 4, 2004 @ 3:01 PM

Probably one of the best places I ever sat down to eat at. The food is good and the service is HILARIOUS. If you don't want to be bothered, or told no, or made fun...then this is not the place for you. If you have a sense of humor you have to eat at Dick's. You won't be disappointed, I promise

A diner from Dallas gave an overall rating of 1.0  out of 5 stars on March 20, 2004 @ 11:45 PM

I enjoyed the food and know the atmosphere is suppost to be rude and crude..our waitress looked like Kelly Osborn at the San Antonio River Walk location. My only real complaint is: I had crab legs and shrimp...when I asked for a sea food fork...I was told that you do not provide any!!!!! It is very hard to eat crab legs without one.

Dick's is not for the meek. It is an experience that incorporates food and drink into the mix.
Portions are generous, menu is limited waiters are surley and there is an abundance of abuse to be had.
It is GREAT FUN! Besure to have a BJ while your there.
