I don't like German food. But this place was impressive... I dunno if I was just lucky to get the "good" dishes that "Americans" like... (you know, like Orange Chicken in a Chinese resteraunt) But I was impressed.... I can actually say it was the best German food in Bakersfield... But then again, I heard it was the ONLY German food in Bakersfield! LOL Thanks and the waitress/host was a firecracker and along with the acordion player was part of the entertainment!!!! Thanks. Richard.

I had some excellent meals here in 2003 and was treated like part of the family every time. Denise was the only waitress at the time and part of the family as well. I haven't had German food as straight forward and honest since I was in Germany while in the Army. Since then I have suffered a motorcycle accident and permanent residence in Orange County and have not been up since... I will return.

As for the moron putting down Denise. You're a dumbass. I can see you've never been to Germany... She's tame compared to woment their. And who are you to blast her for a recent divorce and mark her as a cougar??!! What an ass. Of course you fail to mention the fact she is raising two beautiful kids on her own?? Nah... just the dirt for you I guess. I wish Active Diner would see that comment as malicious and unrelated to the resteraunt's quality and remove it. But that's just me. Great job BOG!! And I will soon return with my wife and daughter to enjoy your witty and aggressive German personality!

My wife and I go to this restaurant several times a year for the German food. We were in the Army in Germany for several years and this place is just like the Gasthaus we used to hang out in. They have a nice menu, the food is very authentic. Service can be a little slow when crowded, they normally have one waitress, she is very nice but seems a little overwhelmed at times. Only suggestion would to be have an extra waitress working on Friday and Saturday evenings when it is most busy.

We have found our new favorite restaurant in Bakersfield! We went tonight with our three daughters. They were very family friendly which we greatly appreciated. Warm, friendly atmosphere and great food. Couldn't have been better.

I recently moved back to Bakersfield and was thrilled to find Bit of Germany still in operation. The food and family atmosphere is wonderful as when I left,my favorite is the Cordon Bleu and just as expected was great. East Bakersfield has more family restaurants than anywhere I've ever visited. Good to be bck

Our family recently had the pleasure of trying Bit of Germany Restaurant, this little family owned business serves some of the best german food we've had. The accordion player is a treat both for us and our children.

Bit of Germany Restaurant has brought our family and friends so many years of not just fine dining but also friendships. The Saurebraten is one of our favorites along with the Jagerschnitzle. The Earhart family has put alot of TLC into their establishment and customers. We were sorry to read the earlier writers vindictivness towards Denise, Denise laughs off the comments as she knows who wrote it, and her outgoing personality goes on.My husbands a fireman and shes yet to take him off my hands..We've had many laughs over this.

Bit of Germany Restaurant is as authentic as you can get outside of being in Germany, the family run restaurant has served four generations of our family for over 24 years, just as with many of
its regular patrons. Fran the owner prepares all food as ordered and consistance is what you'll have. Bob the accordion player is there every Friday evening. Denise the daughter and waitress, knows her customers by name and makes for a great dining experience. You can tell this family really loves their work. We were appalled by an earlier review' this insecure and jealous wife obviously has never got to know the family, or restaurant. Unfortunate for her she has caused herself and husband much embarrassment. We recommend the Hauseplatte for two for a start, also the Cordon Bleu. Keep up the good work and we"ll see you soon

the saurbratten was a bit tough. however, the shnitzel was to die for. I was glad to have found this place over on the east side. We will come back.

Bit Of Germany is a good restaurant, with good hearty authentic German food. I have absolutely no qualms about recommending this restaurant to others, for a fine meal.
What I DO have qualms about, is a waitress named Denise, and her behavior towards men, whether married or not. Denise is the daughter of the owner. She is also recently divorced. Denise has been on the prowl for a number of years for a new man in her life....preferably a "man in uniform", like a fireman.
Her inappropriate and unprofessional behavior towards married men, ruins an otherwise fine dining experience. It makes for awkwardness and discomfort, on the part of wives that are subject to her behavior towards their husband's.
I can recommend Bit Of Germany for a fine dining experience, but women do beware of this waitress and her behavior with men, married or not.

This resteraunt is a wonderful example of home cooked German meals. My family and I have been going with friends and out of town guests for many years now. There is live entertainment almost every Friday and Saturday ranging from the accordian jokster, Bob to the white-topped men playing piano, clarinet, and drums. It's great entertainment and food for a decent price. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours chatting and eating away, relishing every minute of Fran's delicious German cooking.

I was born and raised in West Germany.. This place is okay at beast, but lacks many of the elmates German restautrants have. The food was not poor, but was not really that authentic either. Rather blah compared to a typical German meail.
