Zylfred"s is a Fresno Favorite for over 30+ years!
They're famous for a GREAT Shish Kebob Sandwich with grilled onions, bell peppers served on a toasted peda bread bun, with a generous serving of rice pilaff included. I recommend ordering their tasty chef's salad with "Homemade" 1000 Island house dressing.

The food here was enjoyable, not the best I've had. My review has more to deal with their customer service. We only chose to eat here to use our Entertainment Book discount card. We didn't find out until afterwards that Zlfreds only lets you use the "buy one get one free" meal on their "dinners". My husband ordered a "dinner" and i ordered what was called a Chicken Kebob Plate. Apparently, my plate didn't qualify for the discount because it wasn't on the back of the menu under "dinners".

While we realize that owners of restaurants have the right to specify what they want for deals, coupons or specials...but it really should be stated more obvious. We use our Entertainment Book card very frequently and have never come across a restaurant that is so set in their ways with no room for compromise. In fact, to most restaurants, a meal is a meal. They never have specified to us that we need to order from a certain section of the menu in order to get the discount. It's as simple as this. I was there at dinner time. I ordered a meal. It's not that far-fetched to assume that I am within the boundaries of this discount.

The owner actually came to our table and proceeded to argue with us. He would not even listen to what we were saying and was very stubborn/rude. In my opinion, the joke is on him because he showed this behavior in front of the entire restaurant....over giving us a $10 discount.

It's too bad. The point of the Entertainment Books is to attract new patrons to restaurants that they may never go to otherwise in hopes that they will continue to eat there after trying it once. I hope this owner feels ok that he stood firm over this $10 dispute. I guess that $10 was more important to him than being customer friendly and our chances of ever coming back.

On a funny note, I wish I had thought of this earlier-At the point where they told me what I ordered wasn't a "dinner", I should have said, "Fine. Upgrade my plate to a dinner-Just bring me the boiled tomato and a salad." This was basically the only difference between my plate and a dinner! So ridiculous.
