Zafferano Cucina Italiana opened two years ago at the corner of Bennington and Saratoga in East Boston -- off the beaten path, but definitely worth the trip. The owners hail from Avellino, Italy, and offer a high quality, delicious and authentic Italian menu, featuring hand-crafted pastas, unusual preparations of classic dishes, homemade desserts and a specialized Italian wine list. It's an elegant restaurant and a great value, with prices roughly two thirds of those charged for the same experience in comparable North End restaurants, without the tourists or traffic. Easy parking, too.
