Exton Restaurant Guide

I have visited the Vickers several times over the past six months, both for business, and for social occasions. Each time I have been there, I have noticed that the ingredients in the food seem to be cheapening, and the presentation from the chef is disappointing- tiny Dover Soles, poor quality vegetables, short glasses of wines, and stale desserts. At the same time, the service has been superb, and attentive, and Robert, the maitre de is delightful. Sadly, I have heard shouting coming from the kitchen, which is embarassing for all. I am not sure what is happening, but I hope things improve, or we'll move on with our business.

Been quite a few years since we dined at Vickers and it will be quite a few more before we return. The snob appeal is still in place but nothing warrants it. A fall Friday evening....Caesar salad prepared tableside by a preoccupied gentleman who had no clue was tasteless. Raw egg? Why even bother, for the sheen? Dinners were as described but unremarkable. The empty tables nearby were understandable. Coffee was good. Room was nice and warm. If Vickers requires good food in order to succeed, they are doomed.

The room was hot. The waitress kept sniffling and wiping her nose with her hand. We were ignored by the wait staff and the manager. The lobster bisque should be called "lack of lobster" bisque. The burger was way over done. It's questionable it was beef. My burger was served on two bun tops while my friend's was served with two bottoms. After eating as much as we could take the plates sat in front of us for 15 minutes while they cleared empty tables. After complaining no visit from manager or offer to adjust the bill.
An awful experience- won't be back. At least it was way overpriced!

There was a void in Chester County and sorrow in our hearts when Arturo sold the Vickers years ago... Now he is back. Arturo's Tour de Force is evident in every aspect of the restaurant; the decor, friendliness, world class cuisine and wines. His service staff is second to none. No plate slamming, pony tailed wait staff with Arturo. If they are carving a Rack of Lamb, filleting a Dover Channel Sole, or mastering the art of Crepe Suzette, Arturo's presence is the motivation they display.. Thank God for Arturo's Old World Elegance. My wife and I attended a wedding last week in that pristine party room and his civility has carried on into that realm of his operation... Thank You Arturo!

Terrible!!!!! Man at door was rude...no hello, how are you. Simply, NAME. I asked for a larger dining room. not the tiny room on the side and it was obvious that the other dining rooms had tables, however, we were told "I need to give this waiter a table" ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!?! The server had no idea what VO was....is this fine-dining or am I at Applebee's? He actually took my knife off of my plate and told me I would need this for dinner. The service is below 1 star. The food was OK, nothing was great, just okay. Dessert was from a box and our server told us that. I would think for $8.50 perhaps the owner would have a pastry chef. There is a reason this place is empty...Management is poor, service is horrible, the food is bland and boring (steak diane..please) and the owner obviously couldn't care less. I give this place less than a year to close.
P.S The bartender didn't know how to make a mojito and it was on the drink special. He finally asked the manager and he said how the hell would I know.

This place used to be right up there with Dilworthtown Inn when Arturo owned it previously. Not so any more. On arrival we were seated quickly in the empty front room and told "I need to give the bartender a table to wait on". Gee thanks! Escargot appetizer was terrible. They forgot to put garlic in it! Entrees very average. Ice cream scoop - please!- of mashed potatoes was totally bland. Veggies were 2 asparagus spears and a little pile of julienne carrots - period. No butter, no ,spice, no flavor. Creme Brulee dessert weak. Overall the meal was bland uninspired and boring.

This is such a beautiful venue for fine dining its a shame the food doesn't do justice to the setting!

Been there for lunch twice and twice for dinner . Great experience. It is getting back to its old excellence. Last dinner was June 4, 2009 with a party of 9 and everyone wants to go back.

We had a party of 7 adults & 3 children (one being below the age of 8)try the Vickers for Mother's Day. It was a complete disaster & disappointment. I would'nt eat there even if you paid me to. The service was horrific. When we walked in, there was nobody there to greet us. We went over to the bar to wait for the other arriving & I guess our second hint that this was looking bad was that the bartender didn't know how to open the cash register. When we went to sit down, the table was nicely set/presented, however, two minutes after sitting down & receiving our menues, the waiter came over to take our order. Not all of our party had arrived. We told him we were waiting on 1 more & we'd need a few minutes. Well, he apparently didn't listen because he proceeded to come over 3 more times. It was very unsettling & we felt rushed before we even had our first drink. When we did order & the appetizers arrived, the taste & presentation was terrible. Mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat for $10+ dollars were shriveled, lobster bisque had no lobster, mushroom soup base tasted like celery & shrimp cocktail had one smashed shrimp. It gets worse..the entres, none under $30, 2 steaks were ordered medium rare. they came out burnt & cold. Crabcakes tasted like cod fish, sole stuffed with crabmeat was cold. Our waiter never came over to ask how anything was, he cleared plates when were wern't done. The owner did nothing but say ' i apologize 3 times'.
They took off the steaks, which, were not eaten nor did they try to accomodate this. The 2 steak orders ended up eating nothing but their appatizer. For a $350 bill, I'll take my good money elsewhere. Treated like a 2nd class citizen. My prediction- they are going to close down again, poor everything. Oh yes, they only have 1 highchair in the place. Another family came in & they said they had to send the husband to drive home & get their own highchair. Family friendly- not!

This was a welcome change from the "Old Vickers". For those of you who don't know, the current owner of Vickers used to own the Kennedy Supplee Mansion, which was renowned for its outstanding food and service. Vickers follows suit to a "t"! I recommend the smoked duck (from the cold cart) so very highly. Also - the caesar salad AND the bananas foster prepared tableside was fantastic were tremendous. Everyone in my party was thrilled with their meals. Service, while very formal, was gracious and comfortable. A true class act!

Prior to the re-opening our visits to the Vickers had declined as it was becoming very hit and miss, (although not as appalling as the Duling-Kurz) and like most Chester County restaurants with pretensions hadn't got the faintest idea what went into fine dining.

We duly made reservations and showed up, on time at 7:30 on a Saturday night. No greeter, no Maitre D'Hotel. We stood around looking lost for a while and eventually a man cam out from a back room, checked us off in the book, and told us he didn't have a table ready and we'd have to wait. No apology, no, would you like to get a drink at the bar while we prepare your table. Frankly, I expected to get handed a TGI Friday style beeper, which mercifully did not happen.

After standing there for a few minutes we decided to get a drink at the bar (the man having disappeared back from whence he came, presumably to ignore some other diners), and after a few minutes trying to attract the attention of the barman, gave up and left.

Half the restaurant was not in operation, they were obviously woefully understaffed, they did not make us feel welcome to the point of being surly. I shudder to think what would have happened had we actually had to eat there.

I just read the article in Chester County Life about the old owner returning to Vickers and was interested in checking it out. We haven't been there for a while. It was amazing! Definitely a different feel from the last owner, and the service and food a total 360. Their chef came out to the dining room 3 or 4 times to check on the diners. They give you this great little homemade candy at the end of your meal. This is definitely 5 stars or more!!! The food was unbelieveable, the service was outstanding. The prices aren't bad either.

WOW! We went to Vickers for their New Years Eve Gala and it was wonderful! Everything from the decorations to the entertainment was fantastic. We have been there a couple of times since it has reopened and wow it is just wonderful. It is a real gem of Chester County! We always get the Caesar salad done tableside and it is always wonderful...so maybe your waiter just had a bad night. I also always get the steak diane or the duck...they are my FAVORITE!!!

On word that Vickers was a good restaurant, we decided to try it out for our anniversary dinner after Christmas. The food was terrible. The ceasar's salad had too much vinegar. I ordered my steak medium and it was dry and the sauce was terrible and unedible. My wife's dinner was drowned in heavy sauces which made the plate look like mush. Very over priced and overrated for the food. I would not recommend it this place.

We just returned from having dinner at the Vickers and I must say our food was excellent! The ceasar salad was one of the best I have had and the rack of lamb was wonderful. The other diners had a filet and bison and both said they were very good. It is somewhat pricey but the food is very good. Two had dessert which was good but not as up to par as the entrees. Overall a great place to eat and look forward to visiting again.

Our family had Thanksgiving Dinner at the newly opened Vickers and found an absolute charmer. Everyone was pleased with their dinners, even the under 10yr. group. The Turkey was moist and flavorful, which doesn't always happen in restaurants on this highly celebrated "Turkey Day". The Rack of Lamb was one of the best I have ever had and the steak Diane was not only excellent, but loved the skillful drama of the flambe. The service was truly outstanding, timing was perfect, gracious service etc. - a real delight to find these days. The cocktails are innovative, updated and simply delicious. Overall the dining experience was top of the line.
We have all agreed to definitely revisit this place again very soon.

We went to Vickers on their opening night on November 13 and it was amazing! The dishes are updated but still have that classic gourmet feel. The Lobster Bisque was out of this world and they are still doing some of their classic items table side. I had the duck and my husband had the Steak Diane. Service was excellent and the ambiance was beautiful and cozy. We are SO glad that it is back! It is such an amazing place and it is just wonderful to be able to go their again.

This one in a million restaurants was at one time the BEST. Will it ever open again? I heard that it was repurchased be the original owner who had made it the "one in a million" place. Looking forward to dine there again. So great!

This restaurant is located in a historic tavern and has been in existence for about 30 years. A couple of years ago it was renovated. The food has always been very good and the service excellent.
