Based on my last two visits in the period of one year: great food, great place but service is very, very poor. Waiters seem not to have any work connection between them. Different parts of the meal come late if at all and nobody seems to be aware of what had been ordered. Relaxing place, poor dining experience.

I have used this restaurant twice for parties. the first time was 2 years ago and again this past weekedn on 11/22/09. Both times, the management, the waiters, the sevice, the food were EXCELLENT. They will work with you on any last minute things your forgot. They will do anything to make you feel special and their first client of the day no matter how late in the night. Aside from the amazing view you get if you are using their "Piano" room for your party. Finally, what you get is above and beyond what you pay. I recommend and plan and using them for all our future parties.

I went to Seabras with our entire family -- 21 of us -- to celebrate my father's 90th birthday on October 24. The staff was excellent to our entire party and especially to my father. Whatever my father wanted -- he got. My father even went into the kitchen to let the chef know how fabulous his lobster fra diablo was. I would recommend Seabras quite highly.

I have been going there for 10 years. The service and food has rapidly gone downhill. The management & service team that was there is long gone and obviously the people that work there, don't care. Too bad. It used to be a great place to dine.

I was just there for a bachelor party with a group of 21 adults. Dinner and service was excellent and the Sangria was delicious. I've been there a few times and would definitely return.
The "Manager on Duty" who took our reservation was a pleasure to deal with. Both his attention and Professionalism made us all feel very welcomed!!!

It used to be better. It is a great waterfront location in an area without many other waterfront restaurants, but the service was non-existent. I went to dinner there two weeks in a row, and gave it a second chance, but I will never return to the Amory. The eating area was clean but the bathrooms were atrocious - worse then nightclub bathrooms.

The waiters in the outdoor eating area forgot silverware, ignored us, and couldn't find menus, even though there were only a few other guests to serve on both occasions. It was not crowded at all, which I can only attribute to the exceptionally poor service.

I went to the Armory tonight for our one year wedding anniversary. I was really looking forward to a wonderful romantic night with my husband. Instead, what I got was a rude and lethargic waiter who was no where to be found for most part of the night and he was not knowledgeable about the menu at all. I ordered a meal that was drowned in sauce and I didn't eat it and 20 minutes later the waiter decides to make an appearance and I tell him about the sauce and he begins to argue with me..i was dumbfounded. I sent the dish back and much to my surprise when I got the check the meal was still on there. I ask the waiter why the item was not deducted and he began to become very argumentative and we demanded to see a manager several times to no avail. I finally had to say "I no longer want to speak with you please get me a manager". After 5 minutes and no manager my hubby and I get up to find him and we find the both if them and begin to tell the manager what happened and the waiter is still arguing and etc.....it was sooo bad, I have never encountered such a rude and argumentative waiter. I have to pay 14 dollars for the 31 dollar meal very begrudgingly. My anniversary dinner turned out tp be a complete mess ad I'm so upset about it. I will never go back there again. The place was unkempt and the service was a negative 10. Please stay away.

This place has gone drastically down hill. I have been going here for a few years and each time the service and food are worse. The few people on this forum who state they had good service had to either be there when their particular waiter was in a great mood or the place had to be empty. This last time I went there were so many empty tables but the service was still horrible. It seems as though there isn't a person working their who cares. Not the waiters, managers, hostess. None. I will not be going here again. The prices are too high to receive poor service. And the food wasn't up to par either. It's just not what it used to be. And this is a shame. Who wants to deal with Newark just for Portuguese food?

The food was excellent, the service was the best and more importantly, the Hostess assigned to our party, Sophia is by the far the Hostess any establishment could possibly have. As an owner of a sizable Accounting firm, my hope is that the owner's know what they have in this wonderful employee

5/10/08 Mother's Day Dinner. 17 people in my party coming from Phila. Sicklerville, Willingboro,NJ. Upon arrival no record of our reservation which was made a month in advance. After we were finally seated and had our appetizer and just placed our order for the entree, the fire alarm went off. After some minutes fire alarm went off again and from where we were sitting we could see the water pouring from the sprinkler system. At this point there was no managerial control. If there was a manager in charge of the dining room or kitchen they failed to do anything about the situation. Some waiters spoke to their customers other just stood around, other tables like our had to search for their waiters and ask what was going on. We were told the kitchen was closed and no dinners would be served; note it was 8:30pm. Never once did anyone appear to apologize for the inconvenience, there was never a general announcement made to the customers. When we got outside we were greeted by a fire engine, and still no one from the staff made their selves available to the customers as they left.It was agreed by everyone that the Armory displayed POOR!POOR!management.Classes need to be made availabe to the entire staff at the Armory on 'HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS TO KEEP THEM COMING BACK"

We have been going to The Armory for 15yrs since the Seabra's took ownership. I am so upset over the downhill spiral of one of our most favorite restaurants!!!

The service was absolutely terrible. We were seated and the waiter took the order for a pitcher of Sangria. He brings us the pitcher and did not bring glasses until we called over another waiter.

The place was not busy - there were only 2 other tables.

It took over 15 minutes until another waiter came to take our order.

The salad bar (which used to be one of the best ever) was soggy lettuce, the palest tomatoes (Jersey is known for the best ever tomatoes, obviously not in Perth Amboy). The tuna tasted sour and was inedible. Nothing else was even worth putting on the plate.

For appetizers, the chorizos were almost raw and very greasy. The calamari was so soggy and also inedible.

Dinner: almost an 1-15 minutes before our dinner came! No bread brought out. Salmon special was completely dried out & my husband's chicken was raw.

The only thing good was the sangria. But, $230 for an inedible meal???

we have been going there for over 7yrs. by ourselves and with large groups of family. the food is great. the service is not good at all. waiters are inattentive and they do ignore you and never come around for refills on soda or liquor. the salad bar selections got smaller over the years. we keep going there just for the seafood. their prices have gone up and the service has gone down. after 7yrs. not sure if i will go back

I live a few blocks from the restaurant, so I've been there several times with friends. Three of us went last night, the service was terrible! We waited 15 minutes before a waiter even acknowledged that we were even seated outside. It was not all that busy either. The only thing good about the meal was the sangria! One of the appetizers came out cold, the waiter took it back to the kitchen and then brought it out burned. No portuguese bread, horrible white bread. Two of us ordered the rodizio... after 10 minutes of sitting there waiting for someone to come by, the waiter finally asked if we were ready. Then 10 guys come at once! Service 0. Value 1. Meal 1. The only thing the Armory has going for it is that you can sit outside. If you want first class Portuguese food, go for Forno's in Newark!!!

The best Portugese restaurant around, right on the water. Watch the boats go by and relax outside during the Spring through the Fall. The best.
