A diner from Fishkill, NY Jan 13, 2010
I used to love this place. Funky decor, nice piano bar at Sunday brunch, but this last weekend .... My fiance (a food critic) and I dropped by for the brunch. He wasn't working at the time, so we planned on a very relaxed meal. The server - Ryan - bustled over to take a drink order. Fairly shortly thereafter, two small carafes of wine appeared, along with two wine glasses. The glasses had a tablespoon or two of water in the bottom. When my fiance asked why, the waiter replied "so they stay cold". He'd already poured wine in one of them before we had a chance to say anything. My fiance sent it back. Ryan took both glasses to the bar, poured wine into the second glass, and brought both original glasses back .... sans carafes. A few sips in I realized I was touching something sticky - a smear of something on the opposite side of the glass. Both our glasses had fingerprints inside and out, as well as bits of effluent. My guess? After a wine glass is used - at least during a busy brunch - they rinse the glasses in a sink of water, and simply reuse them. No washing, no detergent, just rinse and go. It'll be a long time before we go back again. By the way, I tried to contact the restaurant by email to let them know - no email address is listed.
