New Bern Restaurant Guide

Crab cakes advertised as the best real maryland style crabcakes just like you get on the Chesapeake Bay. Lived in a chespeake bay waterfront community and I can tell yu these are not even close at all. No lump crab meat just shredded and breaded crab with seasoning. The other items we had: shrimp, scallops were very good. Just don't believe it when they say the crab cakes are just like you would get anywhere in Maryland or the best you ever had. Not even close.

MJs has daily and nightly specials that make the dining experience different and affordable. Plus, they have a menu of well-crafted dishes that offer unique tastes with traditional food items, like seafood. I've enjoyed MJs everytime I've visited and I've found the service, food, and atmosphere to be more than pleasurable. I especially enjoy their desserts, most often, Cherry Garcia Cheesecake. Outstanding! Tues- steam specials, Wed- crazy good burger specials. I'd suggest checking it out and deciding for yourself. A friendly, enjoyable place.

Absolutely the worst dining experience we have ever had. Not only was the service slow and not friendly but we did not get anything near what we paid for.

I ordered the Maryland Crab soup, only because they were out of the Crab Bisque which was the soup of the day, and it was only 1:15 in the afternoon, but the bowl size was the size of a large cup, definitely not worth $4.95. Also we ordered large house salads, which turned out to be 85% lettuce, three small cherry tomatoes, no cucumbers, several strips of carrots, and several raw onion rings, definitely not worth the $5.95.

My wife also added grilled shrimp on the salad for $4.95 extra. When the salad finally arrived it had only five small and I do mean small shrimp, they were the size of a quarter. What a rip off.

Also the ice teas we ordered were very expensive, $1.82 each and it was mostly ice and no refill.

So for $30 we should have bought a tottery ticket, the money would have been better wasted. It is a given we will not visit New Bern again for any dining experience.
