Restaurant Description

Miss Mae's has a long standing tradition in Wimberley since 1957 when Steve's Grandmother Miss Mae moved to the Wimberley Valley as a rancher raising Angora Goats, sheep and cattle. It was common for her to BBQ for ranch hands and family gatherings when she wasn't on a horse tending livestock herself. That tradition carried on when she opened the Red Barn Pit Bar-b-que on the square in 1983. After she passed away in 1997 Steve Dunks opened Miss Mae's Bar-b-que and carries on the tradition with his Grandmother's original recipes. Everything is homemade from scratch and pot licking good!

the people and nice and friendly but work hard and deliver fast in a rush. I used to live near there and ate there regularly. after a while they learned my name and what i would get regularly. They are always willing for a new story.

BBQ is a very subjective thing, but in my opinion this is one of Texas' best. The staff couldn't friendlier or more accommodating. The meat is always tasty, the sauce tangy. Don't know what more you could want.

This is probably one of the top 10 best BBQ in Texas. It is not out of business and located 1/2 mile off the square on FM 2325. Family run and operated. Great Brisket and sausage and definitely the best chicken smoked not quick cooked. Plenty of bark and fire ring on the beef!!!! You get the real smoke here. Tea is awesome and desserts cobblers and banana pudding are great!

Terrible. As tourists, we expect food here to be at least average. This is not B b q; this place will be out of biz in 2 weeks. Dirty, sickening.

Sorry stuff. I just don't like dry, overcooked food. Tasted like week old beef.

After April Market Day we stopped here---big mistake--OMG!! Dusty, dirty, strange looking owner behind counter with a blank look on his face-scary- food absolutely horrid! OMG! I gave my food to my husband and he threw it away.

We should have known better but we were starving on Market Day. The place is scruffy and dusty, and the brisket was way overcooked and my wife's chicken UNDERcooked! Both of us got sick.

Chopped barbecue is the leftovers, saved to serve to people from out-of-state (visiting Wimberley). No wonder you didn't like it! The sliced brisket was good- - I had a 1/2 lb and my wife had a sandwich. Still moist, not all dried out, because there's enough business to use up the day's production and not leave it for tomorrow (or for the chopped?). Great atmosphere like we used to have in joints like this, before Bill Millers and such took over. Enjoy this place! We did.
