I visited Luce after a fashion show during Lincoln Center BID's 'fashion plate prix-fixe' promotion http://www.lincolnsquarebid.org/news/view/fashion-plate-prix-fixe-2011
This restaurant was advertised as promoting a 3-course prix-fixe dinner.
I confirmed this with the hostess, a 5'4" female with long black hair tied back who confirmed the special that evening (9/9/11, 9:15 pm). She explained exactly what was offered. My husband and I were seated.
10 minutes later, a short, stocky waiter, male 5'7" approached and asked us to order drinks. When we said we were fine with water, he rolled his eyes at us! We told him that we were ready to order. I asked to reconfirm the prix fixe, he ignored me and asked what we were ordering. I asked again, and he said the restaurant didn't have one and rolled his eyes again. I explained that the hostess just explained the special being advertised, he told me the hostess is the hostess, he was the waiter.
I told them it was advertised on the website AND promoted by their hostess a few minutes ago. He shrugged his shoulders and said smirked. I asked to speak to a manager to confirm and he refused.
I asked for the manager again or we would leave. He said " then leave".
Wow. In all of my years as a restaurant service reviewer, I have never encountered a more deceptive, rude restaurant who was hellbent to get rid of a paying customer. They were obviously only looking for ignorant tourists who would pay top dollar for overpriced liquor, and based on the reviews here, mediocre food. They advertised specials inky not to honor them when it brought the customer in. No one should be treated like this.
