Worth braving a blizzard for? I'm still not sure, but Lake Side Cafe surprised me by being excellent.
I started out with a ginger brew, which was mild but still had a bit of a spicy kick. Got a small bowl of lentil, sweet potato, and curry soup that was aromatic and delicious, and invested the rest of my appetite to a Tao bowl filled with brown rice, kale, and tempeh with yellow pepper sauce. The initial plan was to take half of the Tao bowl home for lunch tomorrow, but my stomach disagreed and insisted that I eat ALL OF IT. And I'm not one to say no to such a fine suggestion.
Our server was kind and offered lots of suggestions, and I thought our food came out quite fast.
Being on this whole gluten-free kick limits me tremendously here, but they had a PBJ cheesecake that would probably be worth having a few hours of stomach cramps and an ass like a tap.
Skip the Chicago Diner and spend your money here instead. Believe me, this section of Rogers Park needs the business far more than Boystown.
Like home cooking is mom is a veggie.
We really felt good here......sandwiches
radical reuben.....philly steak (diner made seitan) top notch...filling....reasonably priced...huge portions.....great cocoa mousse cake (vegan) we will be back!

I live in Cleveland, and have made special trips to Chicago for lunch at the diner. The atmosphere is cozy, the food is terrific, and the staff is wonderful!
This has to be one of the best retaurants for vegans in America if not the world.
The second time I went there I skipped all first and second courses and just went straight for the pudding! There are just so many desserts and they are incredible.
