Wow... what a gem in the Clairemont area of San Diego. I'm a designer who frequents this design row & for years we were wishing for a restaurant in this area. Chef Kurt & his team are amazing. He features delicious, fresh, and creative daily specials & soups. Perfect portions and creative plates that are very affordable considering the quality.
I've enjoyed a delicious Heirloom Carrot salad with a hint of Danish Blue Cheese to a Lamb BLT (they smoke lamb bacon on site). The Short Rib Sandwich is a mix of salty, savory & sweet. My wife and I have also enjoyed Sunday Brunch. She really enjoyed the Red Velvet Pancakes with chocolate chips (NO RED food coloring)!! I love the Smoked Salmon Benedict - brings back memories of the delicious Salmon in NY.
Cool, eclectic ambiance without the pretentiousness. The staff is friendly & they welcome you watching them through the "open kitchen." They've even planted the Organic Garden outside.
We hope others find out about this gem. Chef Kurt also owns Concept Catering by CK & has been known to do extraordinary events (still does).

We had met Chef Kurt & team a year ago as he catered my parents 50th Anniversary party. We were ecstatic to hear he opened up his new Bistro a few months ago.
This restaurant has managed to achieve a stylish, yet comfortable atmosphere. They really know what they are doing.
Best words to describe the Food: Comfort *Inspired* Gourmet - 2 sides of the coin: some "die in your mouth" decadent things like the Kobe Beef Patty melt with a pimento aged cheddar sauce covered with a Toasted Rosemary-Thyme bread, or a healthy Concept Salad with berries and nuts. My ten year old son loved the Bacon Leek gnocchi. My girls enjoyed the Raspberry Vanilla Italian sodas - the servers/baristas/Tearistas are great.
So happy they opened up in the Clairemont area. Looks like they definitely have a following. My kids loved learning about the produce/herbs outside in their Organic garden.
Will be back again for brunch - heard they started Sunday Brunch a few weeks ago.

Scrumptious!! What an eclectic experience. A group of us came here for a business lunch recommended by one of the design businesses in this area. Fun environment & comfortable. Service was helpful and she gave us some great recommendations. They were running some chicken, lamb & fish specials. I loved my Chili Meyer Lemon basil chicken over cous cous - seriously to die for. The others tried some of the mussels & frites. My colleagues said that the Salad Nicoise & Bistro Kobe Buger were the best ever. The portions were a perfect size. Kitchen 4140 feels like a breath of fresh air when you've had a busy day. Great Organic Garden out back. We really want to try Sunday Brunch now!

We were delighted to have found this organic minded restaurant. My girlfriends & I try a new restaurant from the Dining Out magazine every month. The design & food kinda reminds me of New York meets Portland. Kind of in an obscure area - the Design District on Morena Blvd, several minutes from downtown. Loved the loose leaf tea & bakery section. This restaurant uses pure ingredients (be sure to visit their organic garden outside that the chefs planted themselves). The service was friendly & helpful. Tried their Almond Joy Mocha - yum in a cool green mug! Absolutely delicious braised short rib sandwich with hand-cut fries (loved the sea salt & truffle oil addition). My friend seemed to really enjoy her butternut squash soup - they even made a spider web design on top with creme fraiche followed by the Best Salad Nicoise outside of France. Heard they just started Sunday Brunch, can't wait to try that next! Would highly recommend this place. Yummy!!
