Hammond Restaurant Guide

Awesome food.

My family and I visited the Hi Ho Restaurant in Metairie, Louisiana October 18th of this year. My wife introduced me to Hi Ho Sandwiches in Hammond in the 60's and my family has loved them ever since. I think people that are trying them for the first time expect that heavy BBQ Sauce. Hi Ho has its own lite sauce, which is more like a gravy, but has a different taste you will find nowhere else. Try them with and opened mind, looking for a new flavor, and I think you will enjoy them.

Hi-Ho. That's all that needs to be said. As a yankee-gone-rebel, the 1960 Hi-Ho barbecue is as unique today as it was to this "Yankee gone rebel from Jersey".

I am not sure why this place calls itself a Barbeque restaurant; there is not other meat other than beef or pork sandwich available on the menu. The thinly sliced meat that was inside the sandwich looked liked it was sliced from a regular piece of Deli meat, not a barbequed slab of meat. There were not any chicken, sausage, coleslaw, baked beans, or potato salad on the menu. These are standard items which are basically offered in most other BBQ restaurants. The BBQ sauce was weak and watery and did not have the usual BBQ flavor that you expect from such food. Overall if you want to eat there bring your favorite BBQ sauce, perhaps you can add your own flavor to the sandwich you buy there.
The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly. The prices were reasonable now, although there was a sign showing higher menu prices starting 7/14/2008.

HiHo has been a tradition in my family since before I was born, and it still is. HiHo is an awesome diner-like place with the best BBQ sandwiches on the planet and the best pricing. Your food is made fast, and the service is awesome. If you haven't had a HiHo BBQ, you haven't lived yet.
