This review was not submitted by a local, but rather, just a lucky Canadian who came across a great bar that is one of the best kept secrets on Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach, FL.

The Dawg Pound Pub is NOT like most of the tourist traps that abound along the beach. This place is a true local hangout with its own dedicated crowd, and the thing that makes it so special is that anyone walking in is treated just like family, no questions asked.

It is owned by Stephanie (a really classy lady) and she runs it hands-on with her friendly staff (Tim, Carrie and others), and you can be assured that you will always be welcome.

The Dawg Pound is small, well-worn, with lots of interesting stuff on the walls (and ceilings), a smokin' juke box (no live entertainment), two pool tables and all of the local atmosphere you could ever want.

Everyone is welcome at the Dawg Pound, and they are "biker friendly". This does NOT mean that it is a rough and tumble place full of nasty characters. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. It simply means that you will not be discriminated against for riding a motorcycle and sporting leather or tatoos. In fact, Stephanie told me that in all the years the Dawg Pound has been around she has never had any trouble because those who would cause it don't go there.

Just a word, this bar is pretty much for adults, not a restaurant or suited for small kids. It is for people looking to kick back and enjoy their time at a local hangout. And that's fine, because that's what it's for. Although I'm sure if you swung by with your kids in tow to check it out for later you would be welcome to do so.

Steph was forced to relocate the Dawg Pound Pub a year or two ago when the building she was in was sold, and as such she does not have the luxury of a kitchen (just two reliable microwaves), but this place more than makes up for that with its' local charm and friendliness, and if you are in Panama City Beach and want to experience a little local interaction, drop by and have a cold one. You'll be glad you did.

Be sure to ask for some of the more notable regulars, such as "Butch", "RJ" and "Jimmy".

Finally, be sure to inquire about "Smashing a Paw" while you're there! It's a sacred tradition!

FYI, if you want to find / reach the pound:
