We have visited this restaurant since they first opened. We always make this our first night out on the day we arrive. We love the place. It is loud but it very family friendly. The portions are generous and my husband and I share a plate on most visits. We generally go to Captain Nance's twice during our week vacation in the summer and at least once on long week-end trips.
With the exception of one visit a few years ago the service is great, warm, friendly Southern charm paired with great food and fast service.

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT CALABASH - CAPTAIN NANCE's
We've now eaten at three of the restaurants on the water at Calabash. This is by far the worst seafood restaurant in the entire area! We've should have known, going on a Saturday evening, when the others were waiting out the door and our party got into Capt Nance's in 10 minutes. First ordered the large scallops and flounder. The scallops were room temp, the flounder overcooked and had bones all in it. When I asked for a replacement, they brought a half portion of hot scallops. The wife got the sauteed shrimp, which was popcorn size instead of medium, was extra salty, and rubbery like it was old. She could not eat it. The old thing good about this place was the hushpuppies.
In addition, the noise level was so high you could not speak to the party at your table. Uncomfortably loud.
Finally the bill they presented was wrong (high) and I had to get the lady at the counter to fix it. She did not ask how the meal was, but told her anyway, and she did not say anything (one would expect an "Im sorry" or such. She did not care, and appeared to be the owner.
The food is much better at Dockside next door or Cap't Johns on the left.
MY wife and I just moved in the area and are big pizza fans. We were told by a couple of our neighbors that Christopher's was the place to try. Coming from Manhattan we didn't think the pizza would be as good. We where both pleasantly surprised that
...
The worst place to eat seafood, not just in Calabash, but most likely on the entire East Coast. Horrible food, poor service and bad staff. Save your money and your time.

Have eaten here for years. OVerall pretty good CalaBASH STYLE seafood and good value. Used to have a good salad bar but no longer. Call for reservation in season as long lines are common. Service is sometimes lacking on busy nights.
