The other reviews here must be fake! This is one of the worst values for dinning I have ever experienced. $16.50 for 2 tiny pieces of chicken (1 leg & 1 wing) & 5 small ribs with 2 little scoops of mashed potatoes & a few barely steamed vegetables. This should have been a $5.95 special @ Zellers. The service was terrible as well, but they obviously knew about the quality of the food because we were never asked how it was. She already knew the answer! This might be an OK place for lots of alcohol & some appetizers on a sticky table, but don’t expect a real meal there.

We've taken elderly friends out at least once a week for lunch for the last 7 years. That's when we moved to the Island.
We take most of our visitors there, too.
The menu is varied, the specials - always good value.
The Owners and staff they employ are attentive.
We think The Black Bear is our own personal "Cheers"

Excellent selection of pub foods and West Coast fare. Service is very friendly and prompt. The outside deck has the best view one could ask for and makes for an exceptional pleasant dining experience. Owners are great hosts. Now open from 11 am. My favorite pub on Vancouver Island.

The best family restaurant in Nanaimo hands down. Very friendly and experienced servers. Managers are dedicated to giving a great experience. Try it you will not be disapointed. Steaks and ribs are the best around.
