A diner from Evergreen, CO
Feb 13, 2011
Being new to the area I really wanted to like this place. The tavern has the "potential" to be a great place to dine. However, after eating there three times in the past three weeks I can not recommend this establishment.
Simply stated, the food is awful and overpriced! On my first visit my wife and I ordered from the the breakfast menu. My wife's corned beef hash arrived in a puddle of grease. My sausage, toast and home fries were submerged in a greasy white gravy that turned everything on my plate to a non edible mush.
On my second visit I tried the lunch. After all, how can a cheese burger be bad. Easy, order medium rare and get a charred patty. My server just shrugged and smiled when I brought this to her attention.
The third time is NOT the charm as far as this place is concerned. Fridays offer all the fish (supposedly cod) you can eat for $12.95 before 4:00 PM and $13.95 after 4:00PM. My wife and her friend wanted fish and chips and suggested we try the "all you can eat" at the Bear Creek. When our orders arrived I could not believe what was on our plates. We each had three processed pieces of fish that the chef covered with french fries. The pre-battered frozen controlled portions were not deep fried but instead were apparently cooked in a microwave oven. Not brown and crispy but WHITE and soggy. The first piece my wife and I tried to eat was not only poorly prepared and tasteless but had a tough grizzly texture that was hard to cut through with a knife and was unpleasant to chew. Our friend ate a half of a piece and gave up. My wife finished her piece and left two pieces on her plate. I tried a second piece and it was just as bad as the first. When we complained to our server she informed us that "everybody loves it". To make matters worse, an older gentleman that was apparently the manager did not seem to care. Our waitress did comp us an iced tea, a mixed drink and a beer but that hardly compensates for three meals that for the most part were left on the plate.
I will not spend my money there again until I see a "Under New Management" sign out front.
