The service was awful at this restaurant. We ordered drinks that didn't arrive until after we got our appetizer. The waiter did stop by and said the bar was backed up and that he would bring us water in the meantime. We got the water the same time we finally got our drinks.
When we got our appetizer, we didn't have any silverware, plates or napkins. So we had to wait another five minutes before we could eat that.
The food ranged from excellent to almost impossible to eat. My husband ordered the seafood chowder and that was excellent with chunks of various types of fish. I order the scallops wrapped with bacon and topped with some kind of chutney (apricot?). It was good but was not hot by the time we started eating it (because of the lack of silverware, etc.). For the main course, my husband ordered the Chilean sea bass. This was served with a couple shrimp and a light sauce and was absolutely delicious. I, however, ordered the halibut in a Schezwuan glazed sauce with vegetables that was practically inedible because it was so incredibly salty. I could eat the fish but not any of the vegetables. The taste of the halibut was completely overcome by the saltiness of the sauce. It would have helped if there had been some rice or something with it.
At this point, I noticed that most of the other tables had bread baskets but we didn't get any. I asked the waiter if it was ala carte and he said something about you don't get bread unless you also get a salad or if you ask for it. I didn't really understand the explanation since it didn't seem the people around us had ordered salads. There wasn't anything on the menu about the what you got when you ordered a main dish.
The ambience was great - it was a perfect evening to eat outside. The only thing that marred it was the people smoking next to us.

Always very good food and service. The meats there are consistently extremely good and their huston salad is big and tasty.
