I went to the 5-8 club with my girlfriend. We sat down to a table that was dirty, (it is a seat yourself resturant so I guess what can you expect....maybe a host?) Anyways, I asked the female server about the portion of french fries and what she recommended for 2 adults. She said, "I don't know? It all depends on what you can eat!" I said, "I understand...but what do most people get for a side of fries for 2 people?" She stated again, "You know...it really depends on how much you can eat...I've had some people eat 3 baskets and some that eat 1!" Well guess what? I'm not in a food eating contest here on ESPN so how about we just get the 1 basket since it's "confidential" information. My girlfriend ordered a salad along with her Juicy Lucy. We waited 15 mintues for the salad to come! I even asked about it and she said it was still being made. Hmmm last time I checked...even a nice resturant that is serving full entrees, (which would take longer to prepare) still brought out the soup or salad within a reasonable time. We did get our food but then waited another 10 minutes to get the food tab. Once I got the tab I waited another 10 minutes to close out the tab. If you aren't in a hurry and don't have high expectations on service then this is the place to go! The whole situation rubbed me the wrong way...very understaffed for being a local "hot spot". Hire a couple of more people to handle the patron load. Pay a high school kid minimum wage to bus and host tables so they are clean when you sit down.

PS - I also complained to the manager and then manager basically sighed and gave me the "tough luck" look. We visited the Cedar Avenue location.

Guess what 5-8? Welcome to 2008 and the age of the internet! Looks like you have 3 other's who weren't really thrilled with their visit. In a tough economy you should be happy with every customer you get. I don't care how great your Juicy Lucy is....I will take my business over to Matt's Bar and Grill who offer the same thing and better service! I advise you to do the same.

I went expecting great 1930 ambiance, what I got was poor service, expansive low quality food, and a bad remodel that made me wonder what the place was like before someone made it look like a bad imitation of a suburban Apple Bees.

Do not go here!!

Their was 18 in our group and the waitress would not issue seperate checks. After the so called stuffed burger, and a 50 minute wait, the waitress gave us a single bill which WE had to each figure out cost of each meal, tax, and amout of tip per guest. Then after another 45 minutes and talking to a very rude manager, we left very disapointed.
Don't go to the 5-8 "comedy" club for dinner unless your by yourself!!

This place reminds me of places I went to as a child when we were taken out for our birthday dinner (early '60s).
Big portions, freindly service, family oriented and fun.

The 5-8 Club is one of my favorite restaurants in the Minneapolis area. You can't beat their Juicy Lucy burger, onion rings, and beer prices.
