Wow! I'm so glad to come across this site, as I too just had an extremely weird interaction with the owner of this place. It's quite helpful to know that mine was not such an unusual case....
I've been a happy and loyal customer for at least a couple of years, and was completely confused and hurt by this man's behaviour. Too bad, but I won't be back either.

I was a regular customer at 13th Avenue for a about a year until the owner was extremely rude to me one day for reasons unknown...having a bad day I guess. I decided not to go back. Email me if you want, I will tell you about it.
I have since talked with several other people in the city who have either fought with, or been thrown out by, the owner of the establishment. Weird.
The servers are really nice and the food is OK (maybe a little overpriced). But really, I can't give my money to a restaurant owner that doesn't respect paying customers. Go somewhere else for your veggie fix. Like most trendy things, this place is not nearly as cool as it looks.

I was basically thrown out by whom I believe to be the owner of the 13th Avenue Coffee House for reasons I do not fully understand. It left me feeling hurt, abused and thoroughly disrespected by a public establishment and therefore felt the need to warn others and share my experience. I wrote a letter to the owner seeking an explanation but have had no reply.
The incident happened during a local Arts Festival, which must be the busiest times of the year but I feel it is still no excuse for the rudeness that I experienced. I waited for an extended period in the large line-up at this restaurant to place a take-out order. After I placed my order I waited patiently and was eventually told by the member of staff who served me that a mistake was made and I would have to wait another five minutes. I told the member of staff that I would wait by the kitchen door as the area by the counter was quite congested. I then waited by the kitchen door for an extended period. Meanwhile people who came in well after me had already been served their food and some were almost completing their meal.
At one point the owner came out of the kitchen and asked if he could help me as I was looking through the open door to see if my food was being packaged yet. I calmly explained that I had been waiting quite a while for my order and he asked if I understood how busy they had been that day. I told him that I understood but it still seemed like I was waiting an abnormally long period for my order. He then obviously lost his patience and told me that he would “get me my money and then asked me to leave.” He went to the cash register, got some money and then handed it to me saying, “Good luck” as I left his establishment. There was no apology or explanation.
It was a slap in the face from a business I have been quite loyal to for the last four years. I understand that the restaurant is doing quite well and has expanded recently but this is still no excuse to treat customers so badly. Regina is still a small city and customer service is perhaps more important here than in larger cities. The world is a pretty small place as well.
The owner should also take note that a couple of my friends refuse to visit the 13th Avenue Coffee House as they have also felt disrespected and devalued by the staff. I have now joined them as I completely relate to their experience.
