A diner from Hudson, WI
Aug 5, 2010
My girlfriend and I (we're foodies in our late 20s) used Restaurant.com to purchase a gift certificate to try The Nova in Hudson, WI. We live in town and have wanted to try it for awhile. We ordered beer and wine and an appetizer. We ordered the salmon and filet mignon. Our food arrived cooked to order, but the filet was mushy, gray and lacked flavor. We sent it back (not even three bites gone) and it was brought back to us because the lighting on the patio wasn't good and we were assured it was cooked right. While it was cooked medium rare, the steak was less than appetizing. We sent the steak back again and asked for another order of salmon instead. The second salmon was cooked perfect and we ordered another drink. The waitress came and we asked for our bill. We paid with the $25 gift certificate (on an approximate $80 bill) and a credit card. The waitress went inside to run the card and we heard a door open and close behind us. A man walked up behind my girlfriend (five feet away) and says, "Unbelievable. You want a free steak and use a $25 discount?(remember it was a gift certificate) Don't ever ****ing come back here, ****ing losers." and walks in the front door. We were both dumbfounded and the waitress returns with our bill and we ask if that was the owner. It was in fact one of the owners (his wife and son own stakes as well). The service was good and the food (other than the steak) was excellent, but we will never return. They signed up for the website to bring in new customers and then treated us like that? We never asked for anything free or to be taken off our bill, just for the salmon in place of the not eaten steak, nor did the owner ask us what was wrong. He just proceeded to swear at us and tell us not to come back.
