If you go to Seamus McGhee's, it's a good idea to bring along an appetite for something hearty and satisfying.
"We're known for our ribs and sweet potato fries," said manager Ashley Vass, whose signature Mai Tai cocktails also have developed a respectable fan base at the downtown Lemont bar and eatery.
The baby back ribs, bathed lightly in a tangy homemade sauce, are boiled first and then finished on the grill. The char-grilled steaks - an 8-ounce fillet or a 12-ounce New York Strip- also are popular as are the daily seafood specials. All entrees come with a choice of soup or salad, potato or rice, and the day's featured vegetable.
Burgers, centered on an 8-ounce portion of black Angus beef nestled into a cornmeal dusted bun, are a superb menu mainstay as well, Vass said. Accompanying the burgers and other sandwich selections are steak fries, sweet potato fries or thin fries and lettuce, onion, sliced tomato and a pickle.
The appetizer menu's southwest chicken egg rolls draw a lot of takers too, Vass said. Also among the "starters" are mozzarella wedges, chicken wings, vegetable-filled quesadillas and chicken fingers.
Among the sandwiches that have a solid following is the Reuben, served on marble rye bread.
"The meat that we use is very lean," Vass said. It's Vienna corned beef."
There's also a children's menu, suggesting miniature burgers, individual pizzas, chicken fingers and ribs in portions suited to a kid's appetite. Prices for the younger patrons' meals range from $5.95 to $8.95, and all but the pizza come with fries.
