A diner from Loves Park, IL Apr 17, 2010
I’ve never reviewed anything before but felt compelled after having a conversation with Sam’s Pizza on Harlem Rd. in Machesney Park. I am a shift manager at a fairly large local company. We regularly order pizza for our workers, majority of the time it comes out of my own pocket. Thou there are plenty of pizza places to choose from in the area, on 3rd shift we order Sam’s because they stay open til’ 2am. 2 times last year I order pizza for my crew out of my own pocket. 1 order for 12 pizzas & another for 14. Close to $280. I was given “customer loyalty” cards. 1 for each pizza I ordered. Collect 15 cards and receive $10 off your order.
One Friday night I found a bunch of these cards while flipping through a stack of menus. So I decided to cash some in on a large pizza. I place a call and get a friendly guy, I tell him I have some of these cards and give him my office phone #. He explains that he delivers to the company all the time and knows it well. Then in a friendly manner he asks me to hold on a second. Abruptly a 2nd guy comes on the phone and says if you don’t have a valid phone # we can’t accept them. A little confused and put off, I told him my number again. He says it’s a company phone # and that they have never given “customer loyalty” cards to companys. I explain to him that I paid for these orders out of my own pocket and that his delivery people certainly did give me these cards. There was a pause and then he says they haven’t given those cards out in over a year and that they are only valid for 1 year thou nowhere on the card does it say that. I told him that I in deed placed an order for 14 pies in July of last year and that indeed these cards came with that order. He says well, then pauses, and says either way he is not going to honor them. I said OK, hung up the phone. I then tossed the “customer loyalty” cards in the garbage along with their menu, and will be telling my fellow managers and employees to do the same. With as many pizza places out there give your business to people that care about their customers.
