When we went in I was scared to death the prices would be sky high, but they weren't bad at all. The food was excellent, with good portions and the steak was cooked perfectly. Our server was friendly and came to our table multiple times. We had german chocolate cake and strawberry shortcake for d...

Most of the time the waiters are very friendly. Your food is good and warm when served. Your pecan pancakes are phenomenal, as is your broiled fish. I like the idea of shopping in your country store before or after dinner.
we love there food! We order from carry out from there all the time.
I cannot believe that a restaurant like this exists in Joliet. The atmosphere is incredible, it looks as if it should be in the heart of Chicago or New York City. The food was spectacular and the service perfect. Our entire table made reservations for next month before we left.
I went to The Department for the first time in late July and had a great experience. Unlike other local restaurants the menu is unique, food is great and I thought the staff was very courteous. The building and decor itself is another reason to check it out. The owner gave me a tour of the entire ...
I love the Department's environment. The decor is eye catching and the integrity of the 100 plus building adds so much architectural and historical interest for the diner. The food selection is adequate, but more importantly the food was yummy and better yet the prices were really reasonable. Th...

If you have never had a steak sandwich on garlic bread - You MUST go here! It's called a PoorBoy and boy is it good! This restaurant has the best poorboys I have ever had! I have lived many different places (including Chicago) and I still savor the delectable taste of their poorboys. Being in the health feild I am quite particular with what I eat -- but even I say having one of these artery cloggers once a year ...
Great Food! The building could use some modernization & they defintely need to add a
kids menu.
I moved from Joliet when i was eleven years old so I have not had a Merichkas Poorboy for thirty plus years, but my mouth still waters when I think of them. I would love to get their exact recipe.
I was just recently back in the area after being gone for a number of years for a family reunion. We all met at Merichka's for our famous poorboy sandwiches, and they are still the best in the world. Nothing can compare to them, I would give anything to have that recipe. Everytime I have ever though...
Best Long Island ice tea's in the area. Poor boy's good, too.
