A diner from Sacramento
Oct 17, 2011
I have a long history with Poor Red's going back to the mid 1950s with my parents, since then, through the years I have gone back, approx once every couple of years. I'm writing this on 1017/2011, the day after their big celebration featured in the Sacbee. Yesterday was a big disappointment. The "gold cadillac" drinks were way watered down, you could barely taste the gallanio, in the small single glass they served it in.... ( they used to do the two glass thing, but the waitress, stated they had run out of glasses so we had a single small glass for the standard price) predominate flavor the half and half! My friend had the $18.00 tiny rack of ribs, which he stated was unremarkable, and I had the French dip, which had so much fat in it, I that had to pull it apart, before eating the little that was left. Over the years, the food has gone from very good to very medicore, but until lately, the GC's were respectable until this last visit. I know after 55 years that I won't going back. Like that old song goes... " if memories is all I (they) they sang I'd rather drive a truck,,,think I'll drive the truck, rather than going back. If you're going to Poor Reds just for the memories..have at it!
