A very happy find - by accident. Marrakesh was full and couldn't take us til much later (what recession?) so we walked a block and found Paleys. The staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly. My crab salad with truffles was superb, and my wife raved about her chicken entree. The waiter was not as knowledgeable about wine as we would have liked (my wife wanted a full bodied red wine, and his initial recommendation was too weak. Later my wife traded up to a Shiraz, which was better). Prices would probably shock a thrifty Scotsman, but this is the Pearl, and by Pearl standards the prices are reasonable. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Did I mention the crab salad with truffles is just out of this world?

Please do not order trout done in the Normandy manner. A diva in the kitchen decided that Portlanders would like curled and very overcooked fish. A desecration. This happened several years ago and I have not been back. But planning to give them another overpriced chance.

Incredible food! The service, the wine, the fabulous beet salad, the perfectly cooked trout, absolutely no complaints.

Even things I don't normally like are better than I could imagine at Paley's. Sometimes you need to make reservations early, but there is a reason this place is popular. I suggest going to the website to see what's on the menu as it changes seasonally. Sustainability is a big thing at Paley's. The website link above is incorrect. It’s... http://www.paleysplace.net

So far the best place I've ever eaten at. Very intimate feeling. Beautiful food! I highly recommend!!

Paley's Place is a true "dining experience" from the excellent food, to the ambiance (particularly eating on the porch), to the wait staff. I have taken out of town company, and they wanted to go back the next night! Wait staff also honored my request to make sure I got the check but unobtrusively slipping it by my elbow in a non-descript box. They don't make you feel like an idiot for asking questions about the menu. I've gone 4 times and every time was wonderful.

Fabulous, carefully crafted food. Service is uneven. Typical Pearl district look and feel.
