Diner reviews of Outback Steakhouse
A diner from indianapolis, IN
Jan 2, 2010
We visited this small version of an outback steak house on New Year’s Day at 7:00pm with call ahead reservations. When we arrived we were told that they wouldn't be sure how long until we would be seated, and I promptly informed them of our call ahead arrangements. Apparently calling ahead for a table is an exercise in futility because we were sat in order of arriving some 35 mins later. We had absolutely no place to stand while we waited, and the staff’s only concern is that we get out of the way.
After finally being sat at our table we were greeted by a nice but severely overworked waitress who had at least 6 other tables besides our own, and simply didn’t have the time to give us good service. I don’t blame the waitress but rather restaurant wanting to save the extra $2.13/hr to get her more help. Our drink order was taken promptly and filled incorrectly; our appetizers’ arrived without any silverware on the table after about 15 mins. The speed of the kitchen seems to be up to par but the lack of serving staff or the level of training the staff receives is well below standard.
The evening seemed to drag on as for the next 20 mins we waited for someone to appear to refill our beverages or at the very least remove the plates from our appetizers’, but we didn’t see our server again until our entree’s arrived. Realizing that we didn’t have room on the table for our entree's she collected our plates (as many as she could carry) hurriedly and in the process took many of our eating utensils leaving us nothing to eat the entree's that sat on a serving tray tantalizingly close to us for the next 5 mins. Our server returned (again without our beverages) and auctioned off our food; I.E. Who had the ribs? We asked this poor overworked waitress if we could please; pretty please have something more to drink, and some more utensils. As expected it took her 10 more mins to produce our beverages but surprise surprise, no utensils, so once again we waited, and once again it was 5 more mins before we could finally eat our cold food. Along with our utensils we received our bills which were split amongst the table, and never saw our server again. That’s right we got 1 refill for a soda that cost us $2.29 that we had to ask for 3 times. We were ready to pay, and waited 15 mins more after we had finished eating to have a bus boy come and take our credit cards.
You may have noticed that I didn’t say anything about the quality of the food, well I would like to give a fair judgment but I simply can’t my overcooked steak and lobster was cold by the time I was able to try it. My table left with the feeling of being cheated somehow, we had reservations and were seated in rotation, we had a party of eight and therefore had a mandatory 18% gratuity, but absolutely nothing about this place mandated that generous of a tip. In fact I would have probably given 10% out of pity but not anymore.
In closing I’m giving this restaurant 2 out of 5 stars simply because no one was rude to us, and I guess a little kindness will have to be enough for this absolutely awful place to eat.
