We've enjoyed the New York as a local institution for years, and were apprehensive about the change to new owners, but the nice new look is great, and we're hoping to see it develop into a newly valuable landmark diner instead of the dreary local hangout it has tended to be - problem is, the food is not very good, and for what it is, it's grossly overpriced - like a simple plate of rice and beans with salad and measly white rolls for $8.95(!), even with mediocre live music, no bargain...the cheese they use for omelets and garnishes is deadly, a cheap kind? anyway, don't risk your health...the vegetables are generally worse than canned...the service veers widely from slow and unhealthy-looking locals busy hanging out with their family members, to a few first class women who serve beautifully. It's good when the music's on, and if those unused ceiling fans were put on a slow speed it would feel better...we wish them well and will continue to try dining there.

We ate here last week while pasisng through the area on the way to our rental house. What a great meal for a great deal! The place has been fixed up a lot since we were up there last year, there is apparently a new owner and they have updated the menu and made the place look a whole lot better. The town needed this place to be spruced up. The service also seems pretty good compared to some other places that we have eaten in this area where they seemed slow and like they could care less. We actually found some healthy foods on the menu instead of fried everything. Grilled salmon, fruit plates and hummus were all great choices. Plus the live music in the evenings (not sure if it is everyday or just on the weekends) was a nice touch too. We'll go back.

We stumbled upon this place during a recent trip to the Blue Ridge Area while riding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad. It had just been taken over this past month by new owners, and they seem to really be making some quick needed improvements. Another passenger on the train told us that the place used to not be near as good as it is now. The facilities were not near as clean and the new owner has really improved on service and the menu selections, as well as improving the decor and the dining room. It is a "meat and three"-type place, offering good, down hime cooking in an old historic building in Copperhill. Apparently there are some more plans in the works to renovate the building too, which should help the town as well. In the meantime, the food is good, and you can't beat the convenient location and prices!
