The vision for their own restaurant began a year before Patti Schichel and Steve Mann arrived at their current Muddy Waters site. As they feasted their eyes on their potential location, they loved the building's uniqueness, the river's charm and the site's potential. Three months later, it was theirs. Upon the October 31, 2003 purchase, they "took the building down to the bare walls" and renovated until March 1, 2004. On opening day, the building was completely transformed into an eclectic bar and restaurant atmosphere filled with artistic, creative flair and bohemian accents. In addition they have opened a charming main floor deck with a view of both the Mississippi and the St. Croix Rivers. But that's not all. For a more laid back flair, patrons can enjoy "Backwater" a lower deck, where the food is "casual chic", the full bar serve tropical libations, and the "live" blues bands keep the music flowing. Finally, the upper level, which was previously an apartment, is now a tropical theme banquet facility seating seventy-five with a complete banquet menu and full service bar. Savvy patrons know that besides the atmosphere, an establishment is only as good as its food. Muddy Waters offers a completely American menu with a variety of items to enjoy from appetizers, lunch, dinner, and desserts. Completely original, all items are made from fresh ingredients and Patti's quote would be "It's all made from scratch." Weekend fares include fresh seafood and the luscious prime rib which is smoked on site. Also, patrons can choose from house smoked ribs and salmon. A complete and innovative menu includes the basics, but also offers an ingenious array of regular items. But don't forget Patti's signature dishes which are readily available.
