Elm Mott Restaurant Guide

Wow, this restaurant is everything that I would expect from the country. Super friendly service that makes a true effort to get to know you. The food portions are definately more then one can eat. Overall great family restaurant.

I LOVE their Fried Catfish, I'd rate it as one of the best places for Catfish that I have ever eaten at! The Tarter sauce is very good.
Most people go there for their steaks, with Chicken Fried Steak being their speciality. My son loves it!!

Ate there on 4/20/02. Fried mushrooms were "old school" and should be tempura battered. Old school mushroom have soggy hot liquid centers and most quit making those kind 10 years ago. Chicken fried steak was too done, burnt outside, tough on inside. I was not impressed with the steaks and if they were on a BBQ grill, it was hard to tell. Way too much fat, greasy on top, flavorless (try marinating meat in Wishbone Italian Seasoning for 3 hours--just try it once for yourself) Meat appears to be select and not choice. I realize this is not an upscale rest., but someone needs to go back to the basics when cooking chicken fried steaks and steaks in general--take a deep breath and start from scratch.Staff was great though--I'll hand it to them--they don't control the kitchen, but do attend the guests and are very polite, going out of their way to help. Salid was cold/crisp but more like cole slaw than salid. Dressings were good, even though in plastic containers. Will I eat there again--yep, just to see what the chef does between now and next time.
