Nice ambience, good service, lame food. I usually don't go out of my way to dis' a restaurant, but *avoid this one*. My wife and I tried G&H's Sunday brunch today, and came away with the bitter aftertaste of a 40-dollar waste of time and money. Here's a little quiz:
Question 1: How can you screw up eggs benedict? Answer: Hard cook the eggs, and use fake hollandaise sauce (thickened with flour or starch). After we sent the plate back to the kitchen, a decently poached pair of hen fruit did appear, but unfortunately the second dollop of hollandaise had not magically become edible.
Question 2: How can you screw up shrimp and grits?
Answer: Use Costco frozen pond-raised shrimp instead of "jumbo Gulf shrimp", serve dried-out clumps of grits made with sugar, instead of "truffle cheese grits". Sheesh, do these guys think their customers really can't read a menu or notice cheap food substitutions?
But to be fair, the crab and shrimp bisque was excellent, and our server was very attentive and upbeat - too bad she had to serve such sucky food. You know, like the sucky *raw* bacon wrapped around the asparagus/portobello/carrot-right-out-of-the-bag appetizer. Ummm, classy.
Please do yourself a favor. Stay well away from the Grapes & Hops.
